    Somer Sivrioglu was born in 1971 in Kadikoy, Istanbul and stayed in Turkey until 1996. The mother of the master chef, who worked with his mother for many years in Turkey, worked as a restaurant and bar manager. When he was 25 years old, he went to Australia in 1995 to do his master's degree and graduated from the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management at Bileni University and then did his master's degree.

    Somer Sivrioğlu has held many senior positions in the hospitality industry. He has been involved in the establishment of high street and restaurant chains, the opening of speciality dining venues and the launch and delivery of national restaurants. In 2007 he opened his own restaurant Efendy in Balmain, Sydney but closed in 2021. In 2016, Sivrioglu opened a new Sydney restaurant called Anason in Sindey Barangaroo.

    In 2013 the best restaurant Inner west won local business awards. Winner of the best flavour award in 2012. Winner of the RCNSW excellence awards for speciality restaurant in 2011. In 2010, it won the RCNSW excellence awards for Turkish restaurant. In 2010 Inner West Courier winner for best restaurant in the Inner west.

    Somer Sivrioğlu writes weekly columns for the Turkish community newspaper Yeni Vatan. He also hosted the TV programme Somer's kitchen and the SBS radio programme Journey to taste. Since 2018, he has been the presenter of masterchef Turkey.
