He was known as "father of two ocean navy" becuase he supported the navy. Spent his career convincing his fellow congressmen that the milatary is important. He was chairman of House Naval Affairs Committee and the House Armed Services Committee for 30 years, and continued to serve after WW2 into the Cold War. Started congress in 1914 -
Richard Russel (date is his first year as us senator)
He was a very respected US senator. He also served as the Georgia governor. He brougyht economic oppurtunities ti Georgia. Served as US senator for 35 years. He served until death. He passed the National School Lunch Program which is a meal plan in public schools. -
Holocaust
This day is known as "The Night of Broken Glass" It was when Hitler and the nazis attacked Jewish homes, synagauges, and stores. The Holocaust was when many many many Jews were sent to concentration camps were they were tortured until death. With small portions of food and little clothing, the only way to live was pur luck. -

Located by three rivers and on the coast for trade purposes. They made liberity ships that were very fast and helped a lot. There were 16,000 workers and they built 99 ships. It took 89 days to build one liberaty ship. -
Bombing of Peral Harbor
Japan bombed peral harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. This event forced the US into WWII. It only lasted 2 hours but more then 2,000 soldiers died. WWII had been going on nearly two years before the US finally joined. -
Lend Lease Program
This program was released by FDR. It was created to help Britain beat Hitler before he destrotyed the world. Hitler was soon invading Britain and FDR wanted to help. The program provided mililitary aid to allies of the US. Congress of the US agreeed to the plan, but the US was soon forced into the war -

Meeting held in Great Britain,. Three leaders aggreed to demand that Germany Surrenders. They also prepared for post wart. -
Hitler's Death
Hitler committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol. He married Eva Braun 2 days before their double suicide. He heard that Russians were taking over his home and killing him, so he decided to do it first. -
Bomb dropped on Hiroshima
First atomic bomb ever dropped. US dropped atomic bomb on Japanese city, Hiroshima. Bomb wiped out 90% of the city and killed 80,000 people. -
Bomb dropped on Nagasaki
Only three days after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, another one wqas dropped on Nagasaki. This bomb killed 40,000 people immediatly. Japan surrendered after these two bombs. -
WWII ended
Germany surrendered a week after Hitler's suicide. V-E day is celebrated on May 8th to honor Germany Losing and the allies winning. -

FDR called for an emergency shipbuilding.The shipyard was used for trade purposes in WW11. They made over 88 ships.The workload was mostly women and African Americans.
