The tactics used were creating slogans to unite people, such as "no central stage" and having no leader to create an equal opportunity and space for spontaneous participation of everyone. Telegram was used to create encrypted group chats to discuss strategies and organize protests
  • #BlackLivesMatter Protest

    #BlackLivesMatter Protest
    Social Media sites used were Instagram and Twitter primarily. People would post videos of riots and protests in the streets to twitter and share the hashtags of #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackOutTuesday. On Instagram, there was a movement to post a black square on your timeline to show support. Information about why the movements were important and listing the history of violence towards black people were shared.

    COVID-19 Pandemic
    The forms of social media that were used were Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube.
    The tactics that were used were different across platforms. YouTube and Instagram were primarily used for sharing messages about what they were doing during lockdown to pass the time, or create things and connect with friends in a social way. Facebook and Twitter were used primarily for information about the pandemic, and lots of misinformation and opinions about masks and vaccines were spread.
  • January 6th Storming of Capitol Hill

    January 6th Storming of Capitol Hill
    Some untraditional sites were used, such as far right centric sites such as Gab and Parler. The main social media site used was Twitter. Tactics used were giving directions on which streets to take to avoid the police and which tools to bring to help pry open doors. Reports of insurrection and violence were reported on Facebook and Twitter, calling for guns to be used in the capitol, and rallying plans to organize the removal of several key political figures.

    The overturn of Roe v. Wade
    Primary sites used were Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Tactics used were sharing posts about concerns and effects of the decision from both sides of the political spectrum. Social Media was also used to let people aware of different businesses and companies that wanted to help employees get the health care rights they think they deserve. Awareness and comfort was spread for both sides for different reasons that resonated with their values
