First Cell Phone was Invented
The first mobile phone was introduced by Dr. Martin Cooper. He made the first call on April 3rd, 1973. He was a Motorola researcher and executive. -

First Generation Cell Phone
The first commercially automated cellular network (the 1G generation) was launched in Japan in 1979. Canada launched their 1G networks in the 1980's. The technological development that distinguished the First Generation of mobile phones from the previous generation was the use of multiple cell sites, and the ability to transfer calls from one site to the next as the user travelled between cells during a conversation. -

In the 1990's the 2nd generation mobile phones emerged. The second generation introduced text messaging. 2G also introduced the ability to access media on mobile phones. -

Bag Phones were manufactured from 1992-2000. The company that manufactured the bag phone was Motorola. When cell phones were invented they became out of style. -

First Smart Phone
The first Smartphone was created by IBM, called Simon Personal Communicator. It featured a LCD touchscreen, and a stylus. You could call, receive and send emails, fax, page, write in calendars, address-books, and it featured a world clock. -
Camera Phone
The first official cell phone was built by Samsung. It was called the J-SH04 and could take photos as well as send them. The phone cost around $500. -
Third Generation Cell Phone
The main difference between 3G technology from 2G technology is the use of packet switching rather than circuit switching for data transmission. The first 3G network was launched in Japan. By the end of 2007 there was 295 million subscribers on the 3G network. -

BlackBerry released the first smart phone with colored screen. -
The IPhone
It included a Multi-Touch gestures, HTML email, Safari web browser, Threaded text messaging, and YouTube. It offered more than any other phone on the market, at was considered to be a luxury phone. That was a start to the new "era". It was the beginning of new ideas and concepts such as social media and free for all software and application, and fast communication. -
