South Carolina Slave Code
In South Carolina, slaves were not allowed to leave their master's propperty unless they were accompanied by a white person.

Virginia Slave Code
Slaves were not alowed to work on Sundays and were not allowed to work for over 15 hours a day in the summer, and 14 hours in the winter. They were also not allowed to be taught to write.

South Carolina: Prohibited Slave Education
South Carolina passed laws which prohibited slaves gaining an education in 1740. This then caused the Stono Rebellion.

Georgia: Copied South Carolina's Slave Code
In 1755, Georgia copied South Carolina's ban and decided to outlaw teaching and educating slaves, although allowing slaves to read was not prohibited.

Delaware: Outlawed the Gathering of Blacks at Night
Delaware passed a law in 1831 law that prohibited blacks to gather in groups of a dozen or more at night. This was due to the anxiety white people and slave owners had been developing out of fear of slave rebellions.

Alabama: Fining People Who Educated Slaves
In Alabama, a slave code was passed that would have anyone fined anywhere from between $250 to $500 who was caught educating a slave or had allowed them to write.
