Skate boarding started in the late 1940s or early 1950s. It was started by surfers who started surfing the streets instead of the waves. The skateboards they had was wooden boxes with roller skate wheels underneath. At this time they didn't really do any tricks on the skateboards. -

This is where skaters started to do tricks on the skateboards instead of just riding it downhill or slalom. It is also in this time where competitive skateboarding started and became the sport we see today. -

In the 1980s skateboarding started to influence their clothing style, music and the culture of being a skater. -

The first skate park opened in NYC and many more came to all over the world. -

2000s
The sport skateboarding became very big. Money started getting invested in the sport and it became more mainstream. The people started to get more technical and made better skateboards and got more clever on the topic. Skateboarding isn't as big as it used to but it's still pretty big.
