The First Fleet 1788
In 1787 11 ships left Portsmouth with over 1480 men, women and children. On the 24 of January 1788 the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay. -

The Frontier Conflicts
The first contact between Aboriginal Australians with British colonists was in 1788, which quickly escalated into Frontier Conflicts that lasted for over 140 years. Culturally, it divided and continued to split Australia to this day. According to the Aboriginal people, the white settlers were taking their land. This initiated the Frontier Conflicts, May 1788, only 4 months after the First Fleet arrived in Botany Bay. -
The Age of Macquarie
Between 1789 and 1791, the colony at Sydney Cove was short of food. to make it worse the supply ship, HMS guardian was wrecked of South Africa before it reached the Colony. There was a third ship that got wrecked on Norfolk Island. In despair, the HMS supply was sent to Indonesia. -
Assisted Immigration Introduced
From 1815 the Colonial Government decided to assist the migration of free settlers to improve the Colony. The migrants were paying a fair to Australia so it could help farms and businesses. -
The colony of Western Australia
The colony of Western Australia was accepted at Perth by captain James Stirling. This made Perth the capital of Western Australia. -
The Gold Rushes
During the time of 1850s gold was found at several locations leading to Gold Rushes throughout the decade. The population increases as the Chinese people decided to come to Australia. Aborigines were treated very badly and the population died down. -
For a Colonial and Adventurous Spirit and White Australia
By 1869, there were six Colonies in Australia-New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland- all settled by British people. These separate Colonies all had their own governors, parliaments and seperate ways of contacting the British. -
Immigration Restriction
Before 1900, There was no actual country called Australia. There was only six colonies: New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. There was very little communication between each colonie. The only people who cared were the businessmen and their own economic bases.
