Mississippi River Floods
On this day the Mississippi River reached its peak after a 77 day flood.The flood caused the deaths of 33 people. An enormous amount of crops were lost because millions of acrea of farm lands were left unusable and many farmers did not have insurance because the area that was affected by the flood was a known flood plain area. -
1994 MLB Strike Ends
The baseball players ended a strike which lasted a total of 232 days. The strike caused 938 games to be cancelled including the 1994 World Series. -
Four US Contractors Ambushed and Murdered in Iraq
Four US contractors were murdered in Iraq after being dragged from their cars, badly beaten, and then set on fire. World wide outrage was caused by this incident as a result of photographs of the crimes being realeased to news agencies. -
Terri Schiavo Dies
Terri Schiavo was part of one of the most heavily litigated right-to-die cases. The case involved a total of 14 appeals. The case was a major event for pro-life activists and also disibility rights activists. Her death on March 31 occurred thirteen days after her feeding tube was removed. -
Children in the UK Conceived Through Donor Sperm or Egg Cells Can Now Trace Their Donors
On this day a new law was passed in the UK making it possible for children who are concieved by either donated sperm or egg cells to be given the option of finding out the identity of their donor when they are 18 years of age. The passage of this law is believed to lead to a future decrease in the number of donors.
