Early Childhood
Born August 7th, 1987. Sidney was able to lift the puck before anyone else at age 5-6. He was a natural passer. He started out shooting at a washing machine in his basement. "When I was Seven I knew i had talent". Sidney scored 150 goals and around 300 points when he was seven and playing against nine year olds. -
Family
When sidney was young he had two practices a week, but him and his father Troy practiced early in the morning. His parents told him "Remember where you came from, work hard and good things will happen". -
Proving Himself
When playing in Cole Harbour he played a game with bantam AAA team when he was only twelve (playing aganst 15 year olds). His coach was supended for a game because of this. -
Crosbys rise to fame
When Crosby was 14 he played for Dartmouth subway midget AAA team, got 193 points in 74 games. This team ended up losing in the finals of air canada cup 6-2. Crosby won MVP with 11 goals and 13 assists for the tournament. -
Crosbys early recognition
"Sidney always wanted to play, all ways" -Tim Spidel. "Sidney had a way to turn everything into a contest" - Andrew Gordon. Crosby made his teamates better, he was competitive but sportsmanlike. -
Beginning the QMJHL
He played for the Rimouski Oceanic, got 4 goals and 4 assists in the first game and player of the week in first week. Crosby was respected for his on and off ice ways. "Sidney showed kids that its possible to make major junior hockey" -Cosser."When he is needed most, he plays his best"-Breclav. -
Rise To Fame
When in Shattuck St Marys, Minnesota. he had 160 points in 43 games of sophmore season. When he was 15 he was the youngest player at the canada winter games, and was captain of the Nova Scotia team. When playing team Canada he lost in bronze medal game to Czechs. -
World Juniors/Playoffs
Crosby found himself on the bench during world juniors most of the time and had to watch is team lose in the finals. His first Playoff game was strong he scored the goal to put it away. Crosby scored a hat trick the second game and they swept the series.They ended up losing in the second round to Moncton, Goalie Corey Crawford shut down Crosby. Sidney endd up winning Major Junior top rookie, and player of the year, 54 goals and 81 assists in 59 games. -
Crosby Fever
Canadians liked sidney in a different way, he was the first one on the ice and last one off during practice. Crosby stood out with his deft touches, ability to adjust strides and speed in a fraction of a second to take a pass and the clinical finishing on scoring chances. Crosby was compared to Lebron James in a skill way with fame early in career( Before Professional Career). -
Superstar Status
Coaches and NHL scouts admired Crosbys dedication to gym work. When Gretzky was asked if anyone could beat his records "Sidney Crosby. hes dynamite". He was a 16 year old that would be good for the NHL. Sidney was "Burdened by expectation and hype". He soaked up the game like a sponge, he didnt want to be bigger or diferent from any other player. -
Second Season, Last season (QMJHL)
Crosby started the season with 4 goals and 18 assists in 7 games. He was hit with a knee on knee and the man who hit him (Cabanen) was suspended for 8 games.3 months in to the season he was on a 3 point per game pace. 50 games in crosby had 50 goals. Sidney was a target for gooning, "Sidney is just an amazing skilled player. But major junior teams are looking for big physical guys"-Spidel. -
World Juniors 2.0
Crosby was a 17 year old playin g against 18 and 19 year olds.The first line for Team Canada was Corey Perry,Sidney Crosby and Patrice Bergeron,they had a 7-3 win over slovakia in the first game. In the semi finals Vs Czech Republic they won 3-1 with the whole team pulling their weight.The finals were against Russia, there was a key matchup for Crosby and Ovechkin. Crosby delivers a huge hit on Ovechkin and dislocates Ovechkins shoulder. Canada wins gold. -
Sponsorship
Reebok decided to sponsor Crosby with a 500,000 dollar deal, "Sidney is the perfect athlete to represent us". They also sponsored the team L'Oceanic fitting them with equipment. Sherwood sticks also signed Crosby to a 150,000 dollar deal. -
Playoffs Round 2
Rimouski had a great season so they didnt have to play a first round. They had a Quarter final victory against Gatineau in 5 games. Swept the Huskies in the second round. They took the finals in 5 games against Moosehead. Crosby had 31 points in 13 games, he won MVP. -
Memorial Cup
Rimouski was up against high seed London Knights (Corey Perry), London wins 4-3 in close game. Second game vs Ottawa 67's 4-3 victory, 4-3 win vs Kelowna in third game. Second game vs Ottawa won 7-4, Crosby had 3 goals and 2 assists. Played London is finals, lost 4-0. -
NHL Draft
Crosby was 5'10.3" in draft setup. The morning of the draft Pittsburgh had the first pick and it was rumoured they would take Crosby. Pittsburgh selects Crosby first overall in the 2005 NHL draft. "On the ice i'd want to be someone who makes thing happen offensively" - Sidney Crosby.
