    Minamoto no Yoritomo creates the first 'warrior government'/ Shogunate. Minamoto rules from a coastal town called Kamakura.

    Muromachi Period

    Ashikaga clan rule as shoguns. The capital moved to the Muromachi district of Kyoto.

    Momoyama Period

    Final years of Medieval Period. The 'Warring States' and Medieval periods ended when three unifiers united Japan by Military government.

    Tokugawa (Edo) Period

    Japan is united under the Tokugawa clan. Society fell under 4 categories, samurai, farmers, craftsmen and merchants. Edo, now known as Tokyo, was the new capital of Japan.
