In these first chapters, teh author introduces the main character as Cat Robinson. Her gay, ex-bestfriend Patrick was beaten and strung to a gas pump at the station he worked at in the middle of the night and Cat goes on a quest to try to find out who hurt him. -

In these chapters, Cat reflects on how her last few days as patricks best friend went down. She goes to the library and is harassed by a boy who all she idid to was ask to be quient when he was cussing loudly. She finds the strength within her to stand up to him as he calls her a rude name and that changes everything for her. -

In these chapters, Cat keeps searching for the person who hurt Patrick while she is still haunted by her past with Tommy and her brother. -

In these chapters, Cat goes into the city to do research in the library but while she is there, she is bullied and insulted by a college boy who she eventually stands up to as she realizes how strong she really is. -

In these chapters, Cat gets closer and closer to finding the guy ho hurt her best friend and she meets teh college boy who insulted her and she finds out that he was friends with Patrick. They become friends and they work together to try to find out who did it. -

In these last few chapters, Cat is threatened by whoever hurt Patrick saying that if she doesnt stop asking around than she will get hurt. She also realizes deeper feelings for Jason, the college boy, and she realizes that her brother cares about her a lot more than she thought. In the end, she finds out the one of her best guy friends htat she grew up with hurt him but only right before he dies.
