Unravel Me

    Premise
I choose the book Unravel Me, by Tahereh Mafi for my IR Project because the series had a good rating on goodreads, and the cover looked cool. The book mainly takes place at a rebel hideout called Omega Point, in which Kenji brought Juliette, Adam, and James to while on the run from Warner, the son of a ruthless ruler, who tried to use Juliette as a weapon. At Omega Point many people have special flaws- like Juliette does- that allows them to do inhuman things.
  • Event 1: Kenji- the actor

    Event 1: Kenji- the actor
At the beginning of the book, Kenji gets assigned to work with Juliette on controlling her ability. However, Juliette does not want to, so Kenji makes a huge, embarrassing scene in front of everyone while at lunch, until she will agree. As a result, she moves forward and continues to progress from there, consequently propelling the action. Thinking— I loved that this happened in the book because I think Kenji is a great, funny guy. I also think Juliette could learn a little bit from him.
  • Event 2: The Incident

    Event 2: The Incident
In this event, Juliette finds Adam being tested on in the testing center and flips out. While in a mad rage she punches the ground and her fist goes straight into the ground. This helps everyone to realize how careful they must be until Juliette can control her abilities, thus leading into her training. Thinking— This reminded me how easily she’s a danger to everyone, and all the things that could go wrong if she loses it again. I was terrified for her and what her consequences might be.
  • Event 3: Warner Good? Warner Bad?

Event 3: Warner Good? Warner Bad?
While on a mission to take supplies from the Reestablishment, Juliette disobeys orders and follows Warner, when she sees him pick up a puppy and disappear. When Warner sees her, he falls dumbstruck ,and Juliette quickly notices she’s invisible thanks to the help of Kenji. This experience propels the action by making Juliette question who Warner really is, resulting in her taking chances to discover Warner really is. Thinking— This also made me wonder if he’s mean by choice or force.
  • Event 4: Control at last!

    Event 4: Control at last!
Kenji has finally managed to train Juliette to control part of her powers. She can now control what she does to nonliving objects. She can destroy objects on command. This really moves the story along as she’s more useful and helpful now she can control part of herself, and she is not putting everyone else in so much danger. Thinking— This made me really excited for her as she has struggled so much with this part of her for so long. It was nice to see her get it under control.
  • Event 5: The House

    Event 5: The House
Juliette goes on another mission to help get some of her friends back, and she has to meet Warner’s father, Anderson, to do so. She had to meet Anderson on unregulated property at an abandoned house, and Warner ends up being there too. This moved the plot along as it started a fight between the rebels and the soldiers while having the conversation— which was only happening because they needed a diversion— was going on. Thinking— This made me go crazy. It was too dangerous.
  • Event 6: Brothers?

    Event 6: Brothers?
Juliette shots Anderson in the legs. Then, Adam runs into the house right after Kenji stops her from shooting Anderson in the heart. Adam while looking at Anderson unconscious, blood pooling on the ground and says,”This man is my father.” This moves the action along as not only do we learn that Adam is brothers with Warner, but also that Warner might have abilities just like Adam, so they kidnap Warner. Thinking— This was a dumbstruck moment. It was a lot of information at once.
  • Event 7: The Assignment

    Event 7: The Assignment
Warner refuses to talk to anyone else— other than Juliette. As a result, Castle then assigns her to Warner because she’s the only one he’ll take to, and because Castle also assumed Warner couldn’t touch her. However— like Adam— he can. This moves the story forward as she starts talking to him they get closer and she learns things about him no one else knows. Thinking— This made me nervous but excited to know he wasn’t completely terrible; that he had a heart. Warner was starting to grow on me.
  • Event 8: The Final Countdown

    Event 8: The Final Countdown
After days of talking to Warner, he tells Juliette what he knows of his father’s plan of attack. He’s going to go after the civilians. This immediately propels the action as she goes to Castle, and they start to plan how they are going to help the people and put the mission into action. Thinking— this part made me immediately think something was going to happen to Juliette. She was lucky she went this far without being harmed badly. Although, I did believe Warner was telling the truth.
  • Event 9: The House... Again

    Event 9: The House... Again
Juliette gets caught while trying to help the civilians. The soldiers knock her unconscious and take her to a house, where Anderson wants revenge. Then, Warner walks into the room and she can’t focus. This propels the action by making Juliette have to think and fast as she is in grave danger. Thinking— I was hysterical during this part. I knew something was going to happen to her, and it wasn’t going to be good. How did she get put in this situation again?
  • Event 10: Shots Fired

    Event 10: Shots Fired
Anderson shoots Juliette straight in the chest. She is losing lots of blood and almost dies. However, Warner finds a way to save her just in time; using his powers and Sonya and Sara— the healers at Omega Point. This propels the action just by simply her living. If she died the story would end because essentially it’s her head and actions that the story follows. Thinking— Oh god no! Oh thank god yes! Love you Warner! The end of this book made me so excited to read the next one in the series.
  • Reflection

    Reflection
Overall I thought the book was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to read a good book. If a movie was made for this book I would go see it as soon as possible. I am going to read the next book in the series - there is three, Unravel Me is the second book. However, as it was fantasy, the events and characteristics of the characters were not believable, but I would still not change anything about the book. It was a wonderful, adventurous book. I loved the book.
