Great Depression
Economic slump in North America, Europe, and other industrialized areas of the world. It was the longest and most severe depression ever experienced by the industrialized world. This is very important because the US had previously been in a very good economic state and now is in lots of trouble with people not being able to buy food and support their families. Many lost their jobs and couldn't afford the basic necessities of life. -
Adolf Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany
President Paul von Hindenburg named Adolf Hitler leader of Germany. This leads to the Nazi Party becoming more and more powerful and in turn them becoming the party that takes over. This will give Hitler even more power and popularity. -
Germany leaves League of Nations
This withdrawal from the league was followed soon after by Germany's military buildup. Acts culminated for the German invasion of Poland and therefore World War two. -
Poland and Germany agree to ten year German-Poland non aggression act
Created so that both countries could put an end to their problems. Would forego armed conflict for years, this did not last, Germany invaded Poland in 1939 only five years after the agreement. This was the event that started World War two. -
German Reich and the United Kingdom agree to regulate the size of their respective navies
This was seen by Hitler as the beginning of an alliance between the two nations. Released Germany from the treaty of Versailles. The alliance that was expected did not last and soon they would be fighting against each other in World War two.
