It was the first battle of the Revolutionary war. There were troops sent to collect colonial weapons. The Americans won the battle. The location of the battle was Lexington, concord, and Massachusetts. -
Battle of Saratoga
It was the key turning point of the war. The French declared war on the British Colonies. It was a warning sign that the colonists had a winning chance of the war over the French. -
Battle of Yorktown
British surrendered at Yorktown which caused the American Revolution to cease. It began on Friday September 9th and lasted until October 19th. It was important because it set off the final surrender of for the British forces. -
Northwest Ordinance
The US got the Northwest Ordinance from Great Britain. The Northwest Ordinance suggested the 3-3 new states be created from the Northwest territory. It led to the signing of the Treaty of Paris. It set the precedent for how new states enter the Union. -
Alien and Sedition Act
This act made it harder for immigrants to become citizens. It was signed by John Adams. The president put people in prison who were not citizens and who seem dangerous. This act stripped people from their freedom. -
Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions
James Madison wrote the Virginia Resolutions. The Kentucky Resolutions, went further than the Virginia Resolutions. They were drafted in 1798 and 1799. December 3, 1799 and Nov. 16,1798 -
Louisiana Purchase
It was acquired by the US from France, It gave the US control of the Mississippi River. The Louisiana Purchase was also a land deal. -
Marbury v. Madison
This case established the principle of judicial review. This case declared it had power of the Judicial review. It was written by Chief Justice, John Marshall. -
Monroe Doctrine
It was meant to stop European influence in America. It was John Quincy Adams who wrote the Monroe Doctrine. They did not want the European nation to be a part of the Western Territory so the Monroe Doctrine was put in affect so that the US could handle this problem the best way they could. -
Nullification Crisis
Protective tariffs caused the Nullification Crisis. Southerners protested against taxes that was put into place. Andrew Jackson was president when this took place. -
Texas Annexation
The Texas Annexation led to the Mexican War. It caused tension between the US and Mexico. Texas gained independence from Mexico in 1836. -
Oregon Treaty
It was occupied by the Americans, Spanish, and the British. The Oregon Treaty granted the US control of the South of the 49th parallel avoiding war. This treaty was signed by James K. Polk. The treaty bought Oregon boundary disputes. -
Mexican Cession
It made up most of the South Western US. The Mexican Cession ended the Mexican-American War. It completed Manifest Destiny by giving America control of land from the Atlantic to the Pacific. -
Compromise of 1850
It admitted California as a free state. This compromise wanted to abolish slave trade in Washington. It also wanted popular sovereignty within Mexican Cession. -
Kansas-Nebreaska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed people to decide whether they wanted slavery in their borders or not. It was written by Stephen A. Douglas. It created the Kansas and Nebraska territories. -
Bleeding Bloody Kansas
It was a debate on the issue of slavery. It was also a debate between the issue of anti-slavery. It occurred withing the Kansas Territory. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
It was the first battle of the American Civil war. It was located in Charleston, Sc. The United States surrendered. -
Battle of Bull Run
It caused a shock to the ones who felt the the war would end early and to the ones who were unprepared. Abraham Lincoln replaced McDowell and placed the General G. McClellan with the belief of him leading the union to victory. The union troops had the upper hand in the beginning which caused the confederate to go triumph. -
Battle of Antietam
It was know as the "single bloodiest day of the war". Soldiers were killed and wounded. -
Emancipation Proclamation
It declared freedom of slaves within in the state who were in rebellion. It did not free all the slaves but it allowed slaves to fight with the union -
Gettysburg Address
It occurred in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. Abraham Lincoln visited Gettysburg's battlefield to dedicate a cemetery for a fallen solider. -
Battle of Vicksburg
The General Grant laid siege against Vicksburg after attempts of capturing the city. Abraham Lincoln believed this was the key to end the war. The surrender caused a split in the confederacy in two. -

Debated towards the statement "seperate but equal", it set back civil rights in the US. -

It granted all men the right to vote, this included African Americans.
