The Julian Calendar was switched over to the Gregorian Calendar
The Gregorian Calendar, also known as the “Western Calendar” or “Christian Calendar”, is the most widely accepted calendar around the world today. Its predecessor, the Julian Calendar, was replaced because it did not correctly reflect the tropical year or solar year marked by Earth's revolution around the Sun. To get back in step with astronomical reality, a number of days were dropped in the new calendar, creating irregular months with only 18 days and odd dates like February 30. (Time & Date) -

The first period covers the time after Shakespeare left grammar school, until his marriage to Anne Hathaway in November of 1582. When the microscope was invented around 1590, suddenly we saw a new world of living things in our water, in our food and under our nose. But it's unclear who invented the microscope. However, the expedition was a failure, and when Raleigh returned to England the death sentence of 1603 was invoked against him. (History) -

Galileo's Telescope
Galileo’s telescope was only an inch-and-a-half in diameter. Although he did not invent the telescope, and may not even have been the first to use it to observe the sky, Galileo’s interpretation of what he observed with his tiny telescope changed people’s view of the universe in two fundamental ways.
Galileo saw countless stars in the milky-white cloud in the night sky, and realized that the “dome of the fixed stars” is not a dome at all, but has depth. (Cosmology) -
