Oldest Settlement is Ur which is located in Mesopotamia. This is where Abraham lived before his Journey to Canaan. There is a large temple in the middle called the ziggurat and surrounding the ziggurat there is a dense network of small residences build around it and opening onto narrow passageways. -

Ancient Urban Settlements
It is located in eastern Mediterranean. The oldest settlements would be Knossos, Troy and Mycenae. These settlements were organized as city states and are known for being trading center for islands in Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean. These settlements made contributions to the development of culture and philosophy of the western civilizations. They provided public services, consumer services and cultural activities. -

Medieval Urban Settlements
They were known to have a big wall that surrounded the settlement. It lacked space of construction because of the walls so all ordinary shops and houses were nestled into the side of the walls and large buildings. Massive churches and palaces were created inside. -

The first skyscraper is created in Chicago. It is a 10 story homes insurance building. -

35 million people are living in the metropolitan area of Tokyo which is by far the most populous urban agglomeration in the world.
