    Emmett Till was a 14 year old boy from Chicago that went down to Missouri to stay with his family for the summer. Emmett was murdered by whites for allegedly whistling at a white woman at a store. He was beaten to death and thrown in the river. This was a wake up call to everybody who didn't support the civil rights movement.

    The U.S. destroyer, Maddox, exchanged shots with North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin. Two days later, the Maddox and another destroyer reported once again coming under fire. Lyndon B. Johnson got permission from congress to take any measure necessary to ensure safety to South Vietnam.
