Roosevelt 1st Election
This was the 30th presidential election for the United States. Roosevelt was elected president beating Alton B. Parker the democratic nominee. He actually ended up being the only president to serve more than two terms. -
Stock Market Crash
Also known as the 'Wall Street Crash of 1929' this happened because of the constant overproduction and spending of the citizens which caused the largest and most hurtful stock market crash in history. This was the start of the Great Depression. This was a huge effect to the big thinkers and spenders of the time and having so much hope and money invested into the stock, once it crashed everything fell apart. -
CCC
This was a Federal agency also known as the Civilian Conservation Corps. Founded by Franklin Roosevelt. He really enjoyed the outdoors and wanted to help preserve and keep the United States healthy with trees. Without this organization there would not be as many trees as there are today. It was made for unmarried men from the ages of 18-25. Helping bring together the men and save the wildlife. -
Social Security Act
This act was made mainly for the health benefits for older-aged workers. Aid for unemployed, mentally or physically handicapped would be the ones to receive this act. It provided general welfare for the handicapped. -
FDR Court Packing Scandal
Franklin Roosevelt trying to get the Supreme Court to get larger, also trying to balance the opinions in the court. Basically the president wanting more justices in the court. It was a very risky and split deal. -
HUAC Formed
HUAC was an abbreviation for House Un-American Activities Committee. This was a government agency that investigated communist activity in the start of the Cold War. It made the "Communist witch hunts" much more common and lots more accusations being made about communism in that time. -
Germany Breaks Munich Pact
The Munich Pact was signed by Germany, United Kingdom, France and Italy. It was an agreement permitting the annexation of the Czech borders/land. The negotiations tried to exclude the Nazi's. -
Battle of Britain
Britain came out with a victory in this battle. The Royal Air force defended from the Luftwaffe. They won due to the great air force they had competing against Germany. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
A surprise military attack on the United States naval base called Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were the ones who attacked on the U.S. The bombing killed more than 2,300 Americans and destroying the U.S.S battleship. -
Operation Overlord/D-Day
An Allied invasion on German-controlled western Europe. Also a turning point for World War II the Allied forces came out with a victory. The battle was located on the coast of France. -
FDR Dies/Truman President
Franklin Roosevelt dies due to cerebral hemorrhage. Then, Harry Truman became the new president. He was the 33rd president of the United States. -
Nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima/Nagasaki
A victory for the Allies, it was a bombing on the Empire of Japan. The U.S. was the 1st to use atomic bombs on warfare. It was the ending of WWII but could be an argued reason of why the Cold War began. -
United Nations created
The United Nations was a replacement for the League of Nations. This was established to help solve problems with discussions rather than going to war. The UN started with 51 nations. -
Truman Doctrine
An American foreign policy that made a opposition to the Soviets. It basically provided the help to democratic nations. Also it would give political, military and any needed forces to those nations in need. -
Berlin Airlift
Being one of the first big issues of the Cold War. The Soviets blocked the Allies all ways possible on land. So, to reach the Berliners inside the blockage they had to make a way to enter. Creating the Berlin Airlift, by bringing all the supplies to the Berliners to survive. -
Korean War
This war began due to North Korean army crossing the 38th parallel, invading the South Korean area. The U.S. helped aid the South Koreans and regain the land from the Soviets, China and North Korea. It came to an end 3 years later with a signed agreement by both North and South Korea to create a demilitarized zone. -
Brown v Board of Education
The court case that chose whether segregated schools should be allowed or be unconstitutional. The segregation of blacks and whites in public schools were ruled unconstitutional. This helped overturn the Plessy v. Fergusen case. -
Rosenberg Trials
A trial between Ethel and Julius Rosenberg accused of being spies. The two were also accused of selling secrets to the Russians about the nuclear weapons the U.S. possessed. The two were sentenced to death later on after a loss of trial. -
Geneva Agreements Signed
An agreement where the French agreed to take away troops from North Vietnam. Vietnam would then divide into the 17th parallel. -
Vietnam War
North Vietnam signed a peace treaty to end the war really surrendering. The U.S. did not have a huge significance in the war. Continuing a battle between communism. -
Sputnik
The first satellite ever to be launched. It was launched by the Soviet Union, which created the "arms race" between the Soviets and U.S. Sputnik orbited for 3 weeks. -
Hispanic Movements
Also known as the Chicano Rights Movements, creating a movement for the Mexican-Americans in the U.S. The main goal of their protests and other acts was to gain Mexican empowerment. -
Feminists of the 60's
Women in the 60's were just starting to become into the feminism and creating protests on the ways women were being treated. Throughout the 60's and onto the 70's the women gained many more rights in their lives. -
Greensboro lunch Sit-ins
A bunch of non violent sit-ins that took place in Greensboro, North Carolina. These sit-ins increased the recognition and progress towards the Civil Rights movement. This was not the first but one of many influential sit-ins. -
Freedom Rides
Freedom Riders were activists who rode state buses to Southern states trying to test the Supreme court about segregation. Helping the organization called CORE they were fighting for equality. This helped the Civil Rights movement get stronger for the African Americans and other important causes. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
A 13-day issue between the Soviet Union and United States. Closest call to becoming a nuclear war between the two countries. After tons of negotiations the Soviets finally withdrew missiles from Cuba and American missiles from Turkey/Italy were taken away. This caused tons of tension between the Soviets and America. -
The Feminine Mystique
Betty Friedan's book 'The Feminine Mystique' is know as a book that started a movement of feminism in the U.S. The book was one of many reasons the feminism movement started. It played a key role in it. -
U.S and South Vietnam presidents were both shot
Both of the presidents at the time were shot, Diem and Kennedy. Both of the governments were somewhat responsible for their deaths. -
March on Washington “I have a Dream”
March on Washington was a march led for freedom and jobs. It was held at the Lincoln Memorial. MLK addressed his "I have a Dream" speech. -
Diem is Assasinated
Leader Ngo Dinh Diem dies. He was assassinated by a CIA coup that was made to keep Vietnam from having an election. -
Assassination of JFK
John F. Kennedy was the 35th president and he died riding in a motorcade. The governor, Connally was seriously hurt too. A man named Lee Harvey Oswald was the person who assassinated him. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
The cause that made the U.S. become more present in the Vietnam War. Giving the president whatever power he needed to help assist in the war. This made Johnson try to gain the peace he needed in the battle. -
Assassination of Malcolm X
Malcolm X was a religious and inspirational leader to so many. He was assassinated before he was going to give a speech. He was killed in New York. -
Operation Rolling Thunder
Operation Rolling Thunder was a type of warfare to weaken the North Vietnam. The U.S. dropped million tons of bombs on Vietnam. Making it a constant battle between the two air forces. -
America's first troops arrive
America's troops arrive in Vietnam in the late 60's. 3500 land on the China Beach and start in their naval base. over 20,000 American soldiers and advisors are there as well. -
Hippie Movement
This movement was an outcome of the 60's, towards the end of the 60's there was a ton of hippies. Hippies were people who did not approve of any violence and dislike any use of nuclear weapons. They created their own culture for their people involving drugs, love and peace. -

This was a social movement that effected everyone in the U.S. These were opinions on the war and they were opinions against it. -
Tet-offensive
North Vietnam launched some attacks on the South Vietnam which is another name for Tet-offense. This created weakening in the U.S. support system for the South. The guerrilla warfare made it intensely hard for the United States because the Vietnam were used to the land and area. -
Assassination of MLK
Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader and activist who changed lives for many. He was shot at a motel in Tennessee. A man named James Earl Ray shot him. -
Gay Liberation Front
The Gay Liberation Front announces their ideas to make a recognized gay village. -
Nixon in Office
The 37th president was Richard Nixon serving from 1969 to 1974. He was the only president to resign from office. He made great relationships with China and finally made China not hate the U.S. -
Woodstock
Woodstock was a music festival in the United States. It was a 3-day long festival with peace and good vibes for the many 400,000 that attended. Held in a dairy farm in New York it was meant for all happiness and peace. -
Women's Liberation groups
These were two starting groups called the "New York Radical Women" and the "Redstockings". The National Organization of Women was formed because of these two strong groups who led protests and many more. -
Vietnam day
The capture of Saigon made the end to the war. North and South Vietnam were back together unified. This day celebrates the end to the war and the great sacrifices the troops made. -
Kent State Riots
These riots started because of the bombing by the U.S. in Cambodia. Four students at Kent State were killed and 9 injured. This strike caused so many colleges and schools to close. -
Black Panthers Peaked
The Black Panthers were starting to expand in 1968. Then, they were impacting over 68 cities with thousands of members. By 1970 they finally peaked their organization with thousands of members and cities kept increasing. -
Paris Peace Accords
The agreement to ending the war. Gave peace in Vietnam also. Made an end to direct military combat. -
Berlin Wall
This wall was a barrier between the West and East Berlin. Later on President Reagan forced to get this wall down. The wall was originally built to keep East Berliners from fleeing to West Berlin.
