    Triple Alliance formed
    Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy joined together to form the Tripple Alliance. Otto von Bismarck, Chancellor of Germany wanted to maintain peace in Europe. He saw France as the greatest threat to peace. His Philosophy was "as long as it is without allies...France poses no danger to us."
  • Russian Marxists split

    Russian Marxists split
    The Russsian Marxists split into the Mensheviks and the Bolsheviks. The Mensheviks wanted a broad base of popular support and were moderate. The Bolsheviks on the other hand were radical and supported a few revolutionaries who would sacrafice everything for change.
  • The First Battle of Marne

    The First Battle of Marne
    The germans had a plan for the war and it involved taking a quick victory over France. When the germans reached the ouskirts of paris they met heavy resistance. For 4 days the French battled the Germans at the valley of the Marne River and in the end the french were victorious. The french victory resulted in the collapse of the German Schlieffen plan.

    Germany sinks the Lusitainia
    Germany's submarines fired upon the ocean liner and killed 1,198 people and left 761 survivors. This event negativley affected peoples opinion on Germany internationally. It also contributed to Americas entrance into the war.
  • Rowlatt acts passed

    Rowlatt acts passed
    These acts allowed the government to jail protestors without trial. The british government passed these acts after the Indian soldiers returned from home from World War 1. In order for the allies to gain more troops the British government promised reforms for indians after returning home. However when they returned they were lied too and treated like second class citizens in their own country.

    Stalin enacts 5 year plans
    In order to imrove Russias economy so it could compete with other countries he set outrageously high goals for his factories. The factories did not reach the goals but it did lead to exponential economic growth. Steel production increaced by 25 percent.
  • The Salt March

    The Salt March
    To protest the Salt Acts Gandhi organized a peacful demonstration to defy them. He and his followers walked 240 miles to the seacoast to collect salt water to extract the salt from it. Later some planned to march to government salt processing site to shut it down. On the way they were beaten brutally suffering broken bones but contiunued to march peacfully. Word of this oppression spread and gained worldwide support for Gandhis independence movement

    he Instilled nationalism into his country after the embarrassing results of the Treaty of Versailles. After returning his nation to its former glory he set his sights on conquering Europe, then the rest of the world.

Mao Zedong and his 100.000 men were heavily outnumbered and fled, beginning a 6,000 mile journey. When they reached their destination in the caves of northwestern china there were only a few thousand communists survived the journey
