  • Russian Revolution

    Also known as the February Revolution. It was a similar time as the Bolshevik Revolution (October Revolution). This was when the Monarchy was overthrown and the Provisional government was established.
  • Creation of the Communist Party

    Creation of the Communist Party
    The Communist party emerged from the Bolshevik faction of Russian Social Democratic Labor party under Vladimir Lenin. After the February revolution in 1917, Bolsheviks pushed for socialist revolution. The revolution started in 1917 and ended in the 1920s (no official date).
  • The Bolshevik Revolution

    The Bolshevik Revolution
    Also known as the October revolution. It was the seizure of the state power in Russia in 1917. They began to take over government buildings on the 24th of October, 1917.
  • Lenin's New Economic Policy

    Lenin's New Economic Policy
    The new economic policy was introduced by Vladimir Llyinch Lenin in March 21st, 1921. It was a new, more capitalism-orientated economic policy to save the economy of Russia after the civil war. This plan was replaced by Stalin's 5-year plan in 1928.
  • Establisment of the USSR

    Establisment of the USSR
    Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It was a union of 15 subnational Soviet Rupblics, its government and economy were highly centralized.
  • Stalin's Five Year Plan

    Stalin's Five Year Plan
    Replaced the New Economic Policy in 1928. It was a series of nation-wide economic plans in the Soviet Union. Some of the plans worked, and some didn't. The final five year plan was from 1991-1995 as the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    It was a 14-day confrontation between the Soviet Union and Cuba versus the United States. This was the time when the Cold War came closest to becoming a nuclear conflict.
  • Glasnost/Perestrokia

    Glasnost/Perestrokia
    1985-1991, Glasnost and Perestrokia were established to fix the problems of low quality products (food) and lack of social freedom in Russia (USSR).
  • End of Communist Party

    End of Communist Party
    By the 1980's, people began to notice that communism wasn't working for the USSR. Replaced by the CIS (commonwealth of Independent states) in 1991.
  • Democracy of Russia Implemented

    Democracy of Russia Implemented
    The Constitution of Russia declared Russia as a democratic, federative, law-based state with a Republican form of government. (they also hold elections)
  • Russian Stock Market Crash

    Also known as the Russian financial crisis. This crash happened because of declining productivity, an artificial high fixed exchange rate between the ruble and foreign countries to avoid public turmoil, and a chronic defeicit.
