In the Missouri compromise, the main issue was weather new would be admitted as a free or slave states. The north and south were impacted differently because it affected the balance of power in Congress. The Missouri compromise increased tension by making slavery a national political issue. -

The Kansas Nebraska act created it so that they could decide if slavery should be legal there. This impacted the republican party. The north was happy because they were able to decide that they didn't want slavery and the south could decide they wanted slavery. The main issue was treason and murder. John Brown was an abolitionist who wanted to be weapons in slave hands. This event created tension because John brown was killed by this and people didn't like that. -
