As the Colonies emerged in the new world, some Scots sought to take advantage of the new land and opportunities. -
Emigration after the Jacobite Rising of 1745
Charles Edward Stuart led a revolt against the British Throne, in an effort to reclaim it for his father. After a series of victorious battles, the rebellion was crushed by the British army and the revolt died. After this event, many Scots emigrated to look for new opportunities afterwards. -
Eviction from home
As a change in agriculture caused a people to switch from producing cattle to sheep in order to get a higher profit, people began to be evicted from their homes in mass numbers to make room for the needed pasture space. Combined with a large crop failure at the time, it was ideal for them to emigrate to new places. -
Economic Hardships
In the 1920's, an economic depression hit Scotland hard and they sought to find better financial opportunities. Due to a British law stating that all skilled workers must remain in the country, they made their way to the U.S. through Canada.
