    Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul Minnesota, to Molly and Edward Fitzgerald.
  • Fitzgerald Joins the Army

    Fitzgerald Joins the Army
    Fitzgerald was a part of the Princeton class of 1917 but was put on academic probation due to neglecting his academic studies. This failure motivated him to join the Army in 1917.
  • The Romantic Egotist

    Shortly after joining the Army Fitzgerald wrote his first novel titled, "The Romantic Egotist". The novel was sadly rejected by the publishing company Charles Scribner Sons or The Scribner Press.
  • Camp Sheridan

    Camp Sheridan
    In 1918, Fitzgerald is assigned to Camp Sheridan near Montgomery Alabama. While at Camp Sheridan, Fitzgerald met Zelda Sayer, the youngest daughter of an Alabama Supreme Court Judge. Zelda would later become his wife.
  • Discharged from Army

    In 1919, Fitzgerald is discharged from the Army and moves to New York to seek fortune to marry Zelda. Zelda denies his marriage due to not wanting to live off his small salary.
  • This Side of Paradise

    Fitzgerald moves back to St. Paul Minnesota to rewrite his unpublished novel "The Romantics Egotists" as "This Side of Paradise". The novel was accepted by the editor Maxwell Perkins of Scribners.

  • The Great Gatsby

    The Fitzgerald's visited France and while there Mr. Fitzgerald wrote "The Great Gatsby", while in Rome he revised the novel, the novel was then published.
  • Zelda Fitzgerald

    Mrs. Fitzgerald began training intensely in ballet which damaged her health. She suffered her first severe breakdown in April of 1930 and was treated for it until 1931. She relapsed in 1932 and was hospitalized for it.
