  • Discharged from army

    He was discharged from the army in 1919 and went to new York in hopes of marrying Zelda sayre who was the daughter of an Alambama Supreme Court judge. She eventually broke off the engagement because she couldn’t live off his small salary.
  • Left New York

    Fitzgerald quit his job and left New York to go back to Saint Palm to rewrite his novel as “This side of paradise” which is set mainly as Princeton. The novel was accepted by editor Maxwell Perkins.
  • Made his career a writer

    Made his career a writer of stories for the mass circulation magazines such as “The Saturday Evening Post” which at the time became his best story.

    A week after “this side of paradise” was published Fitzgerald and Zelda got married in New York

    Fitzgerald and Zelda moved back to New York where Fitzgerald wrote his novel “The Beautiful And Damned”

    Moved to be near Broadway because Fitzgerald wrote a play called “The Vegetable” but the play failed at the tryout and Fitzgerald had to write his way out of depth with short stories.

    The Fitzgerald’s went to France in the spring where The Great Gatsby was written.
  • Rome

    Fitzgerald revised The Great Gatsby in Rome in the winter of 1924 carrying on to 1925. The family was heading to Paris when the story was published.
  • France and Delaware

    The Fitzgerald’s remained in France until the end of 1926. They then headed back to America to live in Delaware for 2 years so Fitzgerald could have less distractions and continuing working on his stories. While also Zelda began ballet training in hopes of being a professional dancer.
  • Returned to Paris

    The family returned to Paris and Zeldas intense ballet training damaged her health.
  • Zelda in Switzerland

    Because of ballet damaging her health, Zelda was treated in Switzerland until 1931.
  • Going back to America

    During this time Fitzgerald had to pause his novel again and go back to writing short stories so he could pay for Zeldas’ psychiatric treatment. Also during this time the Fitzgerald’s went back to America where Zelda relapsed a year later.
