The First Telegraph Links
The first telegraph links are introduced into Australia. Telegraphs link Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. A telegraph is a copper wire that stretches between the to desired message points, an electric current is sent across to the desired reciepient of the message. At each end there is acoverter that, using an electro magnet, converts the electricity into beeps. These are the made into Morse Code. -
Australian Natives Association
Australian natives association formed. This provided sickness, medical and funeral cover for aborigionies. -
All Cities Connected
All Major Cities and towns in every stae of Australia are now linked by the telegraph system. -
The Bulletin
First issue of The Bulletin published. This is a weekly Australian magazine that reported local stories and issues and was extremely influential in the steps towards federation and is still around today as a news magazine. -

First nation Australia wide census (aboriginal people excluded) was held, surveying information about the populace of the colonies. -
Council of Constitution
Australian council is formed to (unofficially) prepare a constitution for the federation of Australia. Because of the confidentiality of this council it is unknown of the exact date of its forming. -
Sir Henry Parkes
Premier Sir Henry Parkes speech at Tenterfield rallying people to federation. Sir Henry Parkes is recognised as the “Father of Federation” and is famous for this speech. -
The First Draft
First draft of the constitution written to prepare for federation. The constitution is the set of law that set down ground rules that to be amended has to be passed by a national vote. -

Was the start of the first popular federation movement, a federation league was also formed to support the idea of federation. -

Constitution passed by Vic, NSW, Qld, SA, and Tas, this means that all but one colony in Australia is in favour of federation so far, making Australia close to federation. -
WA Says Yes
Constitution passed by a referendum in Western Australia. This means that all the colonies are I favour of federation. For a time it had seemed the colony might refuse to join the federation. Western Australia was the last of the six self-governing colonies The delay was due to strong opposition from a committee within the parliament that requested amendments to issues such as uniform national measures on trade, to protect the colony's economic interests -
