Technological advance: Locomotive
Invented by Richard Trevithick.Locomotive is the name given to the rolling stock with engine that is used to provide traction to the trains, being, therefore, a fundamental part of these. Some steam locomotives were designed to roll without rails, on roads and highways, they were called locomotives, were equipped with tractor wheels and were used to reel the cars that went off the tracks in accidents, dragging heavy machinery, in the work of installation of the rails, etc. -
Scientific advance: Electric generator
Invented by Michael Faraday. The horseshoe magnet creates a magnetic field across the disk. When the disk is rotated, this induces a radial electric current from the center to the edge. The current flows through the sliding spring contact, through the external circuit, and returns to the center of the disk through the shaft. -
Scientific advance: Anesthesia
Invented by William Morton. It is a controlled medical act in which drugs are used to block the tactile and painful sensitivity of a patient, either in all or part of his body and with or without compromise of consciousness. -
Technological advance: Elevator
Invented by Elisha Otis Grave. An elevator or elevator is a vertical transportation system designed to move people or objects between different levels of a building or structure. It is made up of mechanical, electrical and electronic parts that work together to operate it. -
Scientific advance: Aspirin
Invented by Charles Frédéric Gerhardt. It is used as a drug to treat pain, fever and inflammation, due to its non-selective cyclooxygenase inhibitory effect. It is also used to treat specific inflammations such as Kawasaki disease, pericarditis or rheumatic fever. -
Technological advance: Telephone
The telephone is a telecommunication device designed to transmit acoustic signals over a distance by means of electrical signals. It was invented by Antonio Meucci, who built his first prototype, although he did not formalize his patent due to economic difficulties, submitting only a brief description of his invention to the United States Patent Office in 1871. -
Scientific advance: Dynamite
Invented by Alfred Nobel. Dynamite is a very powerful explosive composed of nitroglycerin, a liquid explosive substance at room temperature and very unstable which, when absorbed in a solid medium, becomes a more stable explosive. -
Scientific advance: Margarine
Invented by Hippolyte Mège-Mouriés. It was prepared by extracting the liquid portion under pressure and then allowing it to solidify. When combined with butyrin and water it produces a butter substitute of similar taste. Margarine production became really important during World War II, especially in Germany, as a butter substitute and source of lipids. -
Technological advance: Automobile
Invented by Karl Benz.A wheeled motor vehicle used for transportation. A vehicle that travels mainly on roads, carries one to eight people, has four tires, and transports mainly people rather than goods. They only became widely available during the course of the 20th century. At the end of the 20th century, automobiles were acquiring several functions in favor of passenger comfort and safety, such as airbag, anti-theft alarm, air conditioning, etc. -
Technological advance: Airplane
Invented by Clément Ader. An airplane, is a fixed-wing aerodyne, or aircraft with a greater-than-air density, equipped with wings and a cargo space, and capable of flight powered by one or more engines. Airplanes include monoplanes, biplanes and triplanes. Unpowered airplanes are called gliders or sailplanes, and have been used since the beginnings of aviation, for so-called sport aviation, and even for troop transport during World War II.
