Dalton
Performed experiments that showed the acceptance of the idea of atoms. He found that atoms are invisible indestructible particles and that atoms that have the same elements are exactly alike and that if they are of different elements then they are different. Also that compounds are made of the joining of 2 atoms and more elements.
His theory was- Foundations of modern chemistry. -
Thompson
Said that Atoms were even smaller particles. He said that a model of an atom is sometimes called a "Plum Pudding" model. He says atoms are made a positive charged substance with negative charged electrons that are scattered around like the raisins in a pudding. -
Rutherford
Figured out the Atomic structure. His experiment included, firing a stream of tiny positive charged particles at a thin sheet of gold foil which was 2000 atoms thick. -
Bohr
In the model that Bohr created, he placed eachelectron in a specific energy level. According to the model that Bohr created it showsthat electrons move in definte orbits around the nucleus (like the planets that circle the sun). There is a certain distance from the nucleus. Bohr can up with the Wave model which is a theory of wave mechanics. -
Democritus 388 BC
Asked if cloud matter could be divided to be smaller or if there was a limit to how many time it could be divided. Made the name Atoms which means "not to be cut".
Democritus's Theory- they can be divided smaller and smaller but there is a point were it wont go any smaller. -
