  • 1. Educational Act

    1. Educational Act
    This act was established post second world war, its aims were to remove inequalities which remained in the system so far, the Act established to give every pupil a chance to develop their abilities to the full with a free system of education. They introduced the tripartite system which was supposed to be meritocratic. All children took the 11+ and were therefore given an equal chance to go to a school which suited their ability rather than their background.

    2. O&A levels introduced (GCE)
    the first was Ordinary (O level) which was developed to replace the school certificate which were given to all pupils when leaving schools, and A level were introduced for pupil that wanted to carry on with education, they were a set of exams for 18 year old school leavers
  • 3. Crowther report-

    3. Crowther report-
    the report established that modern school where seen by many as the schools failures of the 11 plus as they were distend to fail , the report also goes in to more details even suggesting the introduction of comprehensive education, and raising the school leaving age. Other aspect that this report included was the school leaving age to be raised to 16 and also the introduction of more six form courses. also when in to more depth on how A level were the only entry to universities
  • Newsom report

    This is a report written in 1963 which emphasised of education of average and below average children, the report argued that the future of the country depended on better education for those of below average ability.
  • Circular(comprehensive education)

    Circular(comprehensive education)
    This was the time were the labour government were in charge and wanted to get rid of the 11 plus , allowing student who had reached the age to go to secondary school go to the one they desired , also all secondary school were looked at to make sure there was no separation between them
  • The Plowden Report

    The report was based on the removal of 11 plus, schools were recommended to review principle, and looked in to depth of the development of children and how they were effected by other factor such as environmental and genetics which may affect human ability
  • School leaving age

    It was decided the that age of all pupil who would be leaving school would increase to 16 and this would implemented in September in 1972
  • Educational reform Act

    The act was reformed to the existing one at the time, and is known as the most important legislation In education to some it includes, the introduction of grant maintained schools, managements of schools, the national curriculum, GCSE and the key stages

    The office for standards in education (OFSTED) was established, it was developed to assist and monitor school, OFSTED are required to develop individual report to schools describing the quality of education they offer there pupils
