Born third of Seven children and the only girl, Cisneros was born to mother and father Alfredo and Elvira Cisneros. -
Adolescence
Cisneros was constantly uprooted throughout her childhood, making it difficult for her to establish friendships or continuity in education. -
The House on Campbell Avenue
In 1966, Cisneros' parents managed to save enough money for a down payment on a house. When the Cisneros family settled into a Puerto Rican neighborhood in Chicago. Moving into this home and other experiences in this neighborhood allowed for her to write "The House on Mango Street." granting her a great foundation from which to build her eccentric characters and enthralling story. -
Education & Early Employment
Cisneros graduated with a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Iowa in 1976. After graduation Cisneros got a job teaching high-school dropouts at the Latino Youth Highschool -
The House on Mango Street
The most famous of her works, "The House on Mango Street" was released in 1984 by Arte Público Press. It went on to sell over 2 million copies worldwide. -
Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories
WHCOC reflects Cisneros's experience of being surrounded by American influences while still being bound to her Mexican heritage.

Final Note
We were supposed to explain how the events of her life culminated in the creation of the House on Mango street, yet the House on Mango street is an autobiographical retelling of her childhood through a collection of poems so I guess she's done my work for me
