  • Telegraph system with needles

    The system used five magnetic needles to point around a panel of letters by using an electric current. It was soon used for railroad signaling in Britain. Wich a yale educated Samuel Morse heard about it nad turned it into the telegraph.
  • Telegraph invented

    The telegraph was invented by Smauel Morse in the 1830's to 1840's. It worked by transmitting electrical singals over wire between stations. This form of communication was more reliabe and less hindered by weather, unless the wires where cut. Telgraph key picture
  • Morse code

    A code developed by Samuel Morse who also developed the Telegraph. It consisted of a series of dots and dashes, for instance (...---...) is SOS S being three dots and O being three dashes.

    Telegraph KeyDepending on how refquently the letter was used, depended on how simple the code was. For instance E had a short simple code while Q had a long complicaated code.

    It was sent from Washington D.C. to Baltimore Maryland. The message read what hath God wrought.

    Telegraph operators could listen to the soft tones of the reciever tone and decode a message mentaly, this led to making a reciever with a more prononced tone.

    Was one of the first major Telegraph companies. It was founded by Cornell. It was one of many such company that developed around the new medium in the 1850's.

    Western Union Telegraph laid first transcontinental Telegraph line. Making it the first nationwide Telegraph company.
  • Wide spread use of Telegraph

    By 1866 a telegraph line had been laid from the U.S. to Eroupe, with the line being laid in the Atlantic Ocean. In the begining of the 21st century althought widespread use of the Telegraph had fallen out of use it was replaced by the fax machine, telephone, and Internet
  • School for the deaf

    Alexander established the school for the deaf in 1872 in Boston, Massachusets. the following year he became a teacher in speech and vocal physiology at Boston University.
  • Alexander's Idea

    Alexnader had an idea to electricaly transmit sound by electricity.
    He was granted his first official patent in March 1876. Later he would face years of legal challenges to prove he was its sole inventor. He owe's his imortality to him being able to design and patent a practical device for transmitting human voice by means of an electrical current.

    On March 10, the first coherent complete sentece the famous "Mr. Watson, come here; I want you" was tansmitted.
  • Assosciation for the deaf

    While constantly engaged in scientific expiraments, Bell crusaded tiressly on the behalf of the deaf. Encouraging their integration into society with the help of lipreading and other techniques. In 1890 he founded the Alexander Graham Bell association for the deaf.
  • How the Telegraph changed Wars

    The electric telegraph changed how wars where fought and won and how journalists and newspapers conducted buissness. it was also where we got the way to wire money.

    Telegraph systems spread acrss the world extensive systems appeared across Europe by the later part of the 19th century. By 1866 the first permanent Telegraph lines were laid across the Atlanitc and 40 mor by 1940.
