Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War, and forced France and Spain to cede. France gave up Canada and all of its claims east of the Mississippi River, while Spain gave up Florida. -
Marques de Rubi Report
The Marques de Rubi Report was a report on an inspection that Marques de Rubi did of the presidios of Texas. He ended up deciding that Spain should abandon all of the missions and presidios except the ones at La Bahia and San Antonio. He also said that San Antonio should become the new capital of Texas, and much of the Spanish population should be moved to San Antonio to strengthen defenses and make settlements. The last thing he said was that the Spanish should befriend the Comanche. -
American Revolution Begins
The American Revolution for freedom from Great Britain began in 1775. Later on, Spain joined the fight against the British, and won several victories in the Bahamas, Florida, and Louisiana. This fight for independance ended in 1783. -
United States gain Independance
The 8 year struggle for independance ended in 1783 with the United States as the victor. The USA became a republic, and quickly grew, making it a threat to the Spanish. The US citizens explored their newly gained land, and even pushed onto Spanish Louisiana. -
Louisiana Purchase
In 1800 France forced Spain to return their former territory, Louisiana, and then sold it for $15 million in 1803 to America. The deal doubled the size of America, and became known as the Louisiana Purchase. -
Green Flag
The Republican Army began having problems, some of which included several Spanish prisoners, including the governor of Texas, were executed. Because of this Gutierrez appointed himself as the new governor without any election, so later on he was forced from power and replaced. This confused the army even more. As this happened a Spanish army attacked Texas, eventually winning with 1,000 rebels dead. -
Battle of Medina
The Battle of Medina was a quick four hour battle that resulted in the rebellion being crushed. While the Republican Army was confused a Spanish army directed by General Joaquin de Arredondo attacked from the south. After the battle a thousand rebels were dead and the rebellion was crushed. -
James Long
James Long was a filibuster from Natchez, Mississippi. Long was angry about the Adams-Onis Treaty, and he thought that Texas should be independant or part of the USA. In 1819 he invaded Texas with 120 men and captured Nacogdoches. After this he declared Texas independant. Soon after, 500 Spanish troops attacked and ran the invaders out of Texas.
