  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was one of the main events that started the Revolutionary War. It began with the Colonists harassing the British, supposedly throwing rocks and snowballs to provoke them.
  • First Continental Congress

    The first Continental Congress took place to decide whether or not the colonies would fight Britain. All but Georgia attended, because Georgia needed Britain's help to keep the Indians out of the colony. The delegates from the colonies met at Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The battle of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere warned the Militia, who fought to keep the British out of Lexington. "Don't fire until fired upon," a famous quote from the battle. The famous shot heard around the world happened here.
  • The Capture of Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga was a fort that was used in the French and Indian War, and the colonists captured it because it served as an easy vantage point to the Hudson River Valley and Canada. This was the first Colonial victory in the Revolutionary War.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The battle of Bunker Hill was one of the most important battles in the Revolutionary war. The colonial army was outnumbered, so they took the high ground on the hill. They built small hills out of the hill to hide behind. The colonists lost this battle, but it gave them hope that they could stand against the British.
  • Invasion of Quebec

    The Colonists wanted to capture Quebec, and make Canada a part of the colonies. They fought to capture the city under Colonel Benedict Arnold and General Richard Montgomery, but failed. This was the first major defeat of the War.
  • Declaration of Independence is signed

    The Declaration of Independence, which stated that the colonists had a right to life, liberty, and property, was signed. It spoke about the ways that Britain had been treating the colonies, and how the colonies should have a right to choose their own ruler if their current one was unfit.
  • Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    General Washington's armies crossed the Delaware river on Christmas Day to capture Princeton and Trenton, which were two victories that helped gain the colonies allies.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga was one of the most important in the war. It was the battle that gained the colonies allies in Spain, France, and Prussia. It gained them allies, which eventually helped them win the war. The battle was won by the colonists.
  • Valley Forge

    The Colonial army waited in Valley Forge for a winter, outside of Pennsylvania. The army used the chance to train their army, but many people died from starvation or the cold. More men died at Valley Forge than any other battle in the War.
  • The British Surrender

    British General Charles Cornwallis surrenders to the colonies at Yorktown, Virginia. It was the day that the colonists became officially free from Britain.
