Saddam Hussein was born in Al-Awja (13 km away from Tikrit). His mother named him Saddam, which means "One who confronts". -
Age 0-3
6 months before Saddam was born, his father dissappeared, leaving his pregnant wife and his 13 year old son. Shortly after being born, Saddam's 13 year old brother died of cancer. Saddam's mother sent him to live with his uncle Khairallah Talfah for 3 years. -
His mother's remarriage
Saddam's mother remarried another man, named Ibrahim al-Hassan. She forced Saddam to move back in with them at age 3, which gave him 3 half-brothers. Ibrahim treated Saddam like dirt. -
Saddam flees for a better life
Saddam had had enough of his step-father treating him like garbage. When he turned 10, he ran away to Baghdad to live with his uncle once again. -
Saddam goes to high school
Saddam's uncle guided him to join a local high school in Baghdad, where his uncle would help him with whatever school work he needed help with. Saddam went through all 5 years of high school, from grade 7 to grade 12. -
Saddam gets post secondary education
Saddam left for post-secondary education in law school. He ended up leaving law school after a few years but in his later years he forced the school to give him a master's degree in law. -
Saddam marries his first wife
Saddam (5 years old) was arranged to marry Sajida Talfah (7 years old). In 1958 they married. Sajida is Saddam's cousin, and his uncle Khairallah Talfah's daughter. -
Uday Hussein is born
Uday is Saddam's first son, who was originally supposed to be the one who takes over Iraq when Saddam dies, but fell out of favour due to his erratic behaviour (such as car crashes, murders, rapes, and excessive tortures). He and his brother were killed by U.S. special forces. -
Qusay Hussein is born
Qusay was (after Saddam lost intrest in Usay) Saddam's favourite son. Usay would later become second in command of the military. Qusay and his brother were both killed by U.S. special forces. -
Raghad Hussein is born
Ragdad is Saddam's eldest daughter, She fled to Jordan where she recieved sanctuary from the royal family. She is currently wanted by the Iraqi government. -
Saddam becomes president
The previous president is getting too old for the job and cannot perfrom his duties as well as he should. Saddam, being second in command, is the perfect replacement. He retires and Saddam becomes president. -
Iraq invades Iran
Iraq invades Iran, first attacking Mehrabad Airport of Tehran and then entering the oil-rich Iranian land of Khuzestan, which also has a sizable Arab minority. With the support of the Arab states, the United States, and Europe, and heavily financed by the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, Saddam Hussein had become "the defender of the Arab world" against a revolutionary Iran. -
The Iraq-Iran truce
Iraq and Iran have not achieved what they had initially wanted to achieve, and after 8 years and up to 1 million deaths, it was a stale-mate. They decided to sign a peace treaty. -
Saddam is captured
Saddam was captured by U.S. forces at a farmhouse in ad-Dawr near Tikrit in a hole. He was found having a great beard and longer hair than what he had looked like the last sighting of him. -
Dies
Saddam was hanged in Baghdad on December 30th, 2006. His body was stabbed 6 times after being hanged. He was buried a day later in his home town Al-Awja.
