France begin building forts along Ohio River
The French held the Mississippi Valley all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. The truth was, even though the French technically owned the landed, their forts were few and far between making it very difficult to actually control the area. This made for a weak grip on the land and made them very vulnerable to English conquest. -
7 Year War begins
In 1756, war broke out between France and Great Britain. In North America, disputes between American and Canadian colonists had erupted two years previously and started a seperate war. The French were not as concerned about the war in New France but more concerned about French colonies in the West Indies The British soon took advantage of this and sent over 20,000 troops to take the colony. This war led to the fall of New France and French reign in the New World. -
