Lousiana Purchase
828,000 square miles were sold to the United States by France in 1803, doubling the size of the United States prior to the purchase. States included in the purchase were Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming. This event would be considered a Political/Economic event. Even though the Lousiana Purchase was an event between two countries, this also increased Americas size and trade opportunity. -
Missouri Compromise
the Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. This prohibited slavery in the Louisana Territory except for Missouri. However, a few years later Congress declared this act unconstitutional. This event would be considered a Political event. Lawmakers and Congress fought hard and long to set slaves free in the Louisana Territory and by introducing new bills, they did exactly that. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner was a minister and religious leader. Him and a group of his followers on the night of Aighust 21, 1831 killed some 50-60 white men, women, and children. However, a few days later he was captured along with 16 other conspiritors and was excuted. This event would be considered a social event. It has to deal with the rebellion that Nat Turner and his followers went through as slaves and their revenge on the white people. -
Nullification Crisis
Andrew Jackson issued a proclamation to the citizens of South Carolina that argued a states' right to nullify a federal law. Andrew Jackson's proclamation was written in response to an ordinance issued by a South Carolina convention that declared that the tariff (tax) acts of 1828 and 1832 are unconstitutional of the United States, and violate the true meaning of a tariff or law. This Event would be considered a Political event due to the fact that it's more about the Legislation that went in it -
Cherokee Indian Removal
The removal of Cherokee Indians occurred in 1838, when the U.S. military and various state militias forced 15,000 Cherokees from their homes in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee and moved them west to Indian Territory (now present-day Oklahoma). This event would be considered Social because it has to do with the removal of Indians from their own land and moved to a new location. -
Mexican-American War
Armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848 in the wake of the 1845 U.S. annexation of Texas. Even though Texas was part of the US, Mexico was still pissed because they still wanted the state of Texas to be considred their own, regardless of the 1836 Texas Revolution. This event would be considered an Political event. All warfare has some politics behind it.
