The Decembrist Revolt
A large group of military officials and soilders planned to revolt, however, Nicholas II found out about their plan. He publicly executed the leaders of the revolt and sent hundreds more to Siberia. -
Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia - 1894
His father, Alexander III, died of kidney disease at the age of 40, and he was not ready to become the czar at this point in his life. Shortly before he became czar, he married Alexandra and had his first child, Olga. Bloody Sunday
Intended to be a peaceful march lead by Georgi Gapan, Bloody Sunday was an important event leading to the Russian Revolution. The marchers were unarmed, and as they approached the home of Ramonov ruler, Nicholas II. Palace gaurds fired at the people. Among the thousands of people, about 100 died. -
The Russo-Japaneese War Ends
The war was fought over the lands Manchuria, Korea, and the Southern half of the island Sakhalin. This war had a lot of casualties and caused the Russian economy to suffer. The war ending with the Treaty of Portsmouth negotiated by Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. -
Russia Joins WWI
Russia joined WWI becaue they thought that Germany was the main threat to their territory. The growing country was not ready to join another war. They had very few railroads to effectively transport soilders and could not produce weapons effectively. -
The March Revolution
Workers on strike protested and would not leave the streets. During this prtest Nicholas II created the Duma in order to calm the protestors. A few days late, the czar abdicated the throne. -
Czar Nicholas II Abdicates the Russian Throne
The people of Russia were unhappy with czar, as can be seen in the March Revolution, taking place just a few days before the czar abdicated the throne. The people were rioting and were not satisfied with just getting the Duma, leaving Czar Nicholas with little choice but to abdicate the throne. -
Russian Civil War begins
After the overthrow of the provisional government, Lenin was the leader of the Bolsheviks, or the "Red Army." People who wanted to continue a government like they had before were the White army. Trotsky was the leader of the Red Army, appointed by Lenin. -
Formation of the U.S.S.R.
The USSR was a socialist state controlled by the communist party. They were originally lead by Lenin, and then after his death Stalin came to power. The state grew a lot after it was established, ending up including the present day countries Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Belorussia, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. -
Vladmir Lenin Dies
At the age of 54, the former leader of the Soviet Union died. He died of a brain hemorrhage. The people of Russia loved him so much that they kept his body in the center of the city and his body has been on display ever since.
