In the early 1900's during the russian revolution, the soviet's government censorship changed dramatically. Censorshp is the government or military hiding certain details from the public eye. -
Bolsheviks
The Russian Marxist split into two groups, the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks. The Mensheviks wanted a broad base of popular support for the revolution. The Bol's supported a small number of committed revolutionaries willing to sacrifice everything for a radical change. -
Trans-Siberian Railway
The world's longest coninuouts rail line. It began in 1891, and ended in 1904. It connected European Russia in the west with Russian ports on the Pacfic Ocean in the east. -
Bloody Sunday
200,000 workers attacked the czar's winter palace in St. Petersburg. They killed between 500 and 1,000 unarmed people. -

Autocracy is a form of government where one man has complete control. Russia had an autocracy before the russian revolution when Alexander II was in charge. -

Any of the armies that opposed the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War. -

This makes sense to fit in this date, because the song is trying to get the Russian people fired up after such a terrible war. -

This is where Stalin lived during his rule, and the massive building shows true totalitarianism. Russia wasn't that wealthy, and yet he had a giant mansion while everyone else had close to nothing. -

It actually started before the 10th century, but it was big during the 1920's. -
New Economic Policy (NEP)
Launched by Lenin in March, 1921, it was a small scale version of capitalism. It allowed peasants to sell their surplus crops instead of turning them over to the government. -

He became the leader of Russia, and was in total command of the communist party. -
USSR
Russia was renamed the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. -
Totalitarian
It describes a government that takes total, centralized state control over every aspect of public and private life. Stalin was Russia's totalitarian leader. -

Stalin is saying that Russia is getting beaten and beaten, so this would have to be after the many wars they had during Stalin's rule. 1928 is after this so it belongs here. This sounds like something Stalin would say, which is why it is a characteristic of totalitarianism. -

This represents totalitarianism because he is giving an order to his people that they must obey. -

This is when Joseph Stalin began his rule, so the laws of communism fit in here. Even though they were written in 1848, they were applied at this time. -
