The Decemberist Revolt
In 1825 a group of nobles and army officials went to overthrow the Czar because they wanted a Constitutional Monarchy. Czar Nicholas the First ended this by exeuting five leaders and sending hundreds to Siberia. These men became heros. -
Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia
When Alexander the 3rd died. Becomes the last Czar in Russia. He is the leader during WWI and the Russo-Japanese war. HIs entire family was killed with him after the hardships that he caused the economy. -
The Russo-Japanese War
The war between Russia and Japanese over control of Korea and Manchuria. Ended with Russia losing horribly with major losses and economic hardship. -
Bloody Sunday
Stated as a peaceful protest to the czar’s palace in St. Petersburg, led by young priest, Father Georgi. The protesters wanted to petition the Czar for better working conditions and some political freedoms. Ended with 100 dead and thousands injured after the Czar ordered the military to open fire. This sparked the revolution of 1905. -
Czar Nicholas the Second Abdicates the Russian Throne
Because of unrest the czar of Russia formed an elected committee. But this committee had little power and failed to resolve Russia’s basic problems. -
World War I (Russian Involvment)
Russia fights Germany and because of lack of supplies and weaponry many people die. The citizens are even more angry and have to live in more economic hardships after the war -
The March Revolution
Workers started to have riots against the czar and wanted to overthrow the czar. Also, the Czar Nicholas II created the Duma (started disobeying czar). Finally, the people overthrew the czar for good (Nicholas II was the last czar). -
The Russian Civil War begins
White and Red armies faced off to take control over Russia, but the Red army won (communism) and was led by Leon Trotsky. this was when Russia became the Soviet Union (USSR) -
The creation of the U.S.S.R.
It was the succession from the Russian Empire and it was a communist country. It was ruled by Lenin, and Joseph Stalin after Lenin was dead, it grew to become the most powerful country in the world until the collapse of communism in 1991, and that’s when the USSR ended. -
Vladimir Lenin’s Death
Lenin was the one who continued Marx’s ideas, but he died in 1924. He mostly thought about how the USSR was going to function and who was going to govern after he was dead. (He suffered a series of strokes) His body is embalmed in the Red Square in Moscow
