Birth of a Philosophy Giant
Born May 18,1891 in Ronsdorf,Germany Rudolf Carnap would grow up to be an advocate of logical positivism and reputed as one of the giants among the twentieth century philosophers. -
Der Raum
In 1922, Carnap published Der Raum which was his doctoral dissertation a year previous .Der Raum was one of his earliest works which deals with the philosophy of space. The Vienna Circle
In 1926, Carnap joined the Vienna Circle. A group of philosophers that created and focused on logical positivism. This concept states that the only meaningful philosophical problems are those which can be solved by logical analysis. -
The Logical Syntax of Language
In 1934, Carnap published the logical syntax of language. Within this work he postulates that the concepts of the theory of logic are purely syntactical and therefore can be formulated in logical syntax. On Inductive Logic
In 1945, Carnap published On Inductive Logic was a turning point for the philosopher. He took a new approach to reconsider probability. Death and Legacy
On September 14 ,1970, Carnap breathed his last. HIs legacy set the ground work for empiricists. Even though this way of thinking was largely overshadowed by the work of Kuhn and philosophers like him. Carnap worked until weeks before his eventual death. He was truly a giant in the world of philosophy that created numerous works and accomplished much through his work with the Vienna circle. He is regarded for his loft contributions as a father of modern day philosophy in the twentieth century.
