Getting Shot
Reagan has a majior setback when he is shot in the chest. Three other people were whot along with Reagan. One of them was his press secritary named James Brady. The man who shot them, John Hinckley Jr., was found not guilty because of reason of insanity. -
Back in Office After Shooting
For the first time since being shot he appears before congress. He recieves a hero's welcome at arrival. His popularity soars as he deals with the shooting with ease. DUring the meeting, he gets overwhelming support for his ecconomic package. His package includes cuts in social programs and in taxes, and increases in defence spending. -
Low Budgeting
There is a low in the government's budget. Reagan submits his fiscal 1984 budget to Congress. Tax cuts and increased defence are blamed for a projected $189 billion budget gap. Reagan refused the advice to raise taxes or cut defence. He vows to "stay the course." -
The Strategic Defence Initiative
Reagan presents his proposal for a Strategic Defence Initiative. it was later dubbed "Star Wars" in a national speech. He said, "I call upon the scientific community in our country, those who gane us nuclear wepons, to give us the means of rendering thes nuclear wepons impotent and absolete." -
New Election
Reagan competes in another election for president. He ends up beatinn his apponent named Walter Mondale. Reagan finishes with 49 states on his side. He has 525 electoral votes and mondale had 10. Reagan also had 59% of the popular votes. -

Saying No to Terrorists
A TWA flight 847 from Athens is hijaced by terrorists. The pilot was forced to fly to Beirut. The terrorists then beat and killed a Navy diver. Most of the passangers were released, but 39 were held captive. Reagan swears that the U.S will never give to the terrorist's demands. The hostages are released 17 days later. -
Reagan Orders Air Strikes
Reagan orders air strikes against Libya. It was inventaliation of when there was a bombing of a West Berlin disco. In it, there were two U.S police who were killed. There wer also more than 200 people who were injured. -
The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty
Reagan and Gorbachev sign the Intermiate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty. It was to eliminate 4% of the superpowers nuclear arsenals. It is the firs U.S- Soviet treaty to provide fo destruction of nuclear weapons. It is also to provide fo on-site monitoring of the destruction. -
George Bush Replaces Reagan
George BUsh replaces Reagan as the president. Reagan leaves the White House with a very high approval rating. In fact, he had the highest approval rating of any president since FDR.
