Charcters: Casie Logan, Christopher John Logan, Little Man, Stacey Logan, Big Ma, Mary Logan, David Logan, Mr. Morrison, TJ Avery, Setting: Mississippi, 1930's Conflict: The Logan family isn't being treated fairly by white folks. -
Event 1: Cassie and Little Man don't want to use the books they are given
Cassie and Little Man refuse to use the books they gave them because of the condition of them and because they were discriminating. They were handed down from the white kids. -
Event 2: Papa brings Mr. Morrison to protect the family
Papa comes come to visit his family and brings Mr. Morrison. He used to be a worker from the same place as papa. He told them that he needed a place to stay but it was really to keep them safe. -
Event 3: The Logan kids sabotage the white kid's bus
The logan kids build a pit in the ground where the white school bus passes by so it won't splash them. When the bus passes by it crashes. -
Event 4: Cassie goes to Strawberry with Big Ma
Cassie gets discriminated for being white. She accidently bumps into Lillian Jean and she was forced to apologize and call her Miz Lillian Jean. -
Event 5: Mama explains racism to Cassie
Mama talks to Cassie about racism and why things are the way they are. -
Event 6: Cassie beats up Lillian Jean
Cassie beats Lillian Jean up for what happened in Strawberry and she also threatened to tell people her secrets. -
Event 7: Christmas
For christmas Stacy gets a coat from Uncle Hammer. He then gives it away to T.J because he told Stacy he looked like a fat preacher. -
Event 8: T.J gets in trouble with the police
T.J started to hang out with the Wallace kids and their influence made him rob a store. He got in trouble with the white police and the Logan kids are afraid that they will kill him. -
Event 9: Papa, Mr. Morrison, and Stacy are ambushed
The Wallace's attack Papa, Mr. Morrison, and Stacy. Papa breaks his legs which means he can't go back to work. Mr. Morrison later beats up The Wallace's -
Event 10: The land catches fire
The cotton sets on fire and the town helps to put it out but eventually it rains and stops the fire. Cassie realizes it was Papa. -
Resolution
Both black and white people worked together to put out the fire. Papa was the one who did it so people could forget about hanging TJ. TJ went to jail and no one knows what will happen to him.
