    The Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal Act was the law passed by President Andrew Jackson that allowed him to move natives onto land west of the Mississippi River, this law was created as the whites wanted the Native lands, and they were not assimilating at a sufficient pace.
  • The Trail of Tears

    The Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears was a historical event where natives were forced to move from their lands in the southeast U.S. to the West of the Mississippi River, in Indian reservations in Oklahoma. The Trail of Tears was named due to the suffering it caused to the Indians who had to travel over 5,000 miles, especially the Creek which suffered the most due to being rebellious to the government.
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    The Civil War was a domestic war in the United States involving two sides: the Confederacy (the South) and the Union (the North). The Outcome of the war was a Union victory, and with that victory came the abolishment of slavery. The Confederates and natives both did not want to abolish slavery, but the Union did.
  • Reconstruction Treaties

    Reconstruction Treaties
    The reconstruction treaties were treaties done during reconstruction between the U.S. and the Natives, there were many treaties but in general, the treaties gave amnesty to the Natives for their crimes against the U.S. Prior to the treaties.
  • The Dawes Act

    The Dawes Act
    The Dawes Act or General Allotment Act authorized by the president forced natives to lose sovereignty and the Native community could no longer collectively own the land, instead, every native or native family had to own a parcel of land.
  • The Indian Reorganization Act

    The Indian Reorganization Act
    The Indian Reorganization Act allowed for tribes to have more self-governing power as it reduced the amount of control the U.S. had over the Tribes, this was said to be a step in the right direction for Native rights but not sufficient to help them out of what the United States had previously done to them.
