    Before: Music was popular on radio
    After: Teens started to rebel and films started airing on TV
  • Country & Western music

    Country was in the Southeast and Appalachian. Western was in the pioneer (west) and Southwest. Nashville, Tennessee was established as the central location for Country and Western music.
  • Rhythm and Blues

    Rhythm and blues first started out as Gospel music. Then as gospel music progressed Chess records was established. Chess records would go around to churches and bars to find new talent. Chess records signed Muddy Waters to their record label. As the whites got all the exposer, the blacks were able to create their own music.

    After WWII, as rhythm and blues got more popular is became dangerous to specifically white teens as they started to rebel against their parents.

    As the teens rebel more over their parents, more Disc Jockeys were being popular. The most famous disc jockey (DJ) was Alan Freed. As more songs were hitting the shelves of stores and were being bought, some artists started to crossover such as going from country and western to mainstream pop

    Elvis Presley

    Elvis Presley was the first "rock and roller" to draw an intense interest from his major labels and getting onto all three charts. As Elvis moved to Memphis with his parents he would later show up to Sam Phillips studio to make a private demo.

  • Rock & Roll the first sound

    As country and western and rhythm and blues started to die down artists were able to make different sounds and get a rhythm for rock and roll.
  • The Day The Music Died

    As the 1950s ended with rock and roll suffering a series of setbacks which would lead to a serious accident. Little Richards started out as a minister in a church but later got into rock and roll music. He was followed by The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. As the boys got on a plane after their concert, there was a snow storm that the pilots didn't think was going to bother with the flight. As they were flying the flight captain lost control and the boys went down and soon died.
  • Bluegrass & Scruggs

    Even though Bluegrass had featured people singing, they featured more virtuosic instrumental solos. Some would compare bluegrass to jazz. Scruggs developed the "three-finger roll," which allowed him to play better banjo passages than how previously the banjo was played.
