The Mariner 2 was the first successful Venus flyby on December 14, 1962 and the first robotic space probe. -
Mariner 4
The first orbiter was Mariner 4(USA), which flew past Mars on July 14, 1965 and took the first close up photos of another planet. The spacecraft took over a year to get to mars but helped us get an image of the planet. -

The Vikings
The first landers were the Viking landers. Viking 1 landed July 20, 1976, and Viking 2 on September 3, 1976. Both landers were accompanied by orbiters that took photos and scientific data from above the planet. The Landers had various tools to aid its job in finding life on mars, although much of the information collected is ambivalent. -
The Voyagers
The Voyagers, originally designed to conduct close up studies of Jupiter and Saturn, Saturn's rings, and the larger moons of the two planets. Voyager 1 and 2 would explore all the giant outer planets of our solar system, 48 of their moons, and the unique systems of rings and magnetic fields those planets possess. They were only supposed to orbit for 5 years, but have now been exploring for 37 years. -
Spirit and Oppy(Opportunity)
The spirit and Oppy where the first robotic rovers on Mars. Their goal was to find signs of life on mars, which they did, Bringing up the question many scientist want to answer can humans one day thrive on Mars. Even though the Rovers were only supposed to stay on Mars for a small period of time before being ruled useless or destroyed, the Oppy stayed in action for much longer going on for 14.5 years, while its twin stayed for 7 years. -
Phoenix Mars Lander
The Phoenix lander was created to study the habilitalty of Mars for Humans, and also find the history of water on the planet.
