Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles is a peace treaty that was signed to end World War 1. However, Hitler felt the need to throw whatever was sign and come up with his own idea, trying to blame every one else for Germany's loss on the world and used it as a way to gain power. Which he, sadly, succeeded in doing. -
Rise of Hitler
After the treaty was broken, Hitler joined the poltical party (Nazi group) in 1919 and worked his way to power from there. The year he actually gained power was in 1933 when he was elected chancellor. Hitler was a great speaker in general - he spoke and gave people what they wanted hear, which was to "make Germany great again." Of course, he gained his foloowers and had his Nazi group attack those who did not support him. -
The Czechoslovakia Crisis
There was no exact date when this began but it was in September. Basically, HItler wanted Czechoslovakia to give up power over Sudetenland. They refused, so a meeting was held and Hitler explained that he would not be seeking further interest of taking land in Europe. This was suppoed to be some peace resolvement so Hitler can avoid war and back off already. This resulted in Studetenland being invaded. -
The Violation of the Munich Pact
After the agreement was signed in September, Hitler demanded that a new Czech government to be placed, wanting Germans to be put in charge. If they didn't agree a war was going to occur. Sadly, the Czech government did not agree and on March 15, 1939 Germany broke the Munich Pact and took over Czechoslovakia. -
The Invasion of Poland
Poland and Germany were two seperate lands because a strip was given to Poland in 1919. Hitler demanded to get back the land back and Poland gave it up willingly, afraid what Hitler was capable of and might do to them. France got involved, stating that they would attack Germany if they would start a war. On September 1, Germany invaded Poland. -
Invasion of France
Germany brought war to western Europe, with the goal of conquering France. Germany invaded Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemnourg, destroying large numbers of Allied planes. France allied with Britain and they decided to fight back against the Germans, but were trapped. On June 22, 1940, France surrended to Germany. -
The Battle of Britain
Operation Sea Lion was a plan to invade Britain. The invasion was meant to be planned for the late summer of 1940 but preceded by a massive air assault aimed towards Britain's vital air defenses. German bombing intesified on August 2, turning into massive bombardment and turned into what we know as the Battle of Britain. Though, everything for Britain went downhill when German Air force begin attacking them with 1500 planes a day. -
The Invasion of the Soviet Union
The code name for the long anticipated invasion was called Operation Barbarossa. The Nazi believed that once the Soviet Union was attacked, it could be defeated in just a few weeks. The treaty of the Nonaggression Pact was broken on June 22 when Hitler decided to unleash a massive invasion that stretched acoss the Baltic Sea to the Capital Sea. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan decided to attack the American naval base called Pearl Harbr. The attack was taken by surprise but it was also known that Japan and United States have been edging towards a war. Nearly, 1,000 soldiers were injured and over 2,000 soldiers died from the attack. The attack on Pearl Harbor was the reason why America had finall joined World War 2 to fight Japanese allies German and Italy declared war on the United States. -
Battle of Midway
The battle happened six months later, after United States defeated Japan. Code breaking is what made the United States and caused Japan's plan to ambush, causing permanent damage on the Japanese Navy. This victory allowed the United States a turning point and move into an offensive position. -
Operation Overlord
American and Bristish officials had been planning what was called Operation Sledgehammer, which was to invade western Europe so they can fight Germnay. However, it had to be pushed back becase Allies had decided to attack Axis powers in North Africa. Since Germany was in control of France, Operation Overlord was planned to invade the Normandy coast of France in 1944. The funny thing is that the Nazis had been expecting the attack and made sure to reinforce their defenses along the coast. -
Okinawa
This battle was considered the last and biggest fight on the islands. This involved about 287,000 troops of the U.S. Tenth Army against 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese Thirty-second Army. This lasted for about 82 days and Japan lost more than 77,000 soldiers and allies suffered more than 65,000 casualities and 14,000 were dead. -
Hiroshima
America dropped the world's first deploy atomic bomb over Japan in a city called Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out nealry 90 percent of the city, killing 80,000 people at first, soon, large amounts of people would die because of radiation explosion. Later, we dropped another bomb on their other city, Nagasaki, killing about 40,000 people. Japan's emperor surrounded on the 15th of August, no longer being apart of World War 2.
