The Second Continental congress had agreed to meet again but only if the British did not address their complaints They set up a post office and also created a Continental army. They also had sent the Olive Branch to ask the King to protect their rights , then the King hired 30,000 Hessian Soldiers. Washington believed that his army was ready to fight , and the weapons arrived , and he set them up while the red coats were asleep. They put cannons on Dorchester . This move had surprised the British . The British retreated and this ended in an American victory. -
