Molasses Act
The Molasses Act was made by the Parliament of England to put a tax of six pence a gallon on molasses imports from England to the colonies. The colonies ended up smuggling in tea from other places. This was an important act in the American Revolution because it kicked off the revolution with England making a law, and the colonies resisting and showing independence. -
George Washington is Sent to the Colonies
George Washington was sent to the colonies in 1753.This was important because Washington was a very important figure in the American Revolution. -
French and Indian War Begins
The French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years War) begins when England's Indian allies kills the French envoy, therefore having the blame lie on Washington's shoulders. This was a terrible part of the American Revolution becuase it makes you go "yikes." It doesn't seem like Washington will live much longer. The French Envoy is supposed to be safe. -
Period: to
French and Indian War
This was also called the Seven Year war. Read "French and Indian War Begins" to see a description. -
French and Indian War Ends
The French and Indian War stopped fighting in 1760, but it officially was put to an end in 1763. It ended officially because the Treaty of Paris was signed. The Seven Years War was a very sad but important event in the American Revolution. If they made the war into a book, it would be a pageturner. At first the French and their Indian allies were winning because of their unformly order, but by the end of the war, the British had victory. -
Royal Proclamation of 1763
After our victory of the French and Indian War, everybody was happy, but things changed after King George III created the Royal Proclamation of 1763. This proclamation said that a lot of good land was off limits to the colonists- including Ohio River Valley! The king also made some new colonies. This was important to the American Revolution because they got so disapointed after the war and I think they realized how much power the king had. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament and it made the people specifically in the American colonies pay taxes on every slip of paper they used. The money that the Stamp Act earned was used to protect the American frontier, To be honest, I am not quite sure why this act was important to the colonists; I can see why it was important to the British, but this seems like we are not showing any independence. Perhaps it got the Americans agitated before the Boston Massacre and got them thin -
Boston Non-Importation Agreement
Almost sixty merchants signed the Boston Non-Importation Agreement in oppisition to Parliament's ongoing tries to highen taxes in the American colonies. Two weeks later, all but sixteen traders and merchants signed the agreement. Others soon followed.
The agreement said that they would boycott all supplies that were subject to England's Townshend Revenue Act until all taxes were taken away from them. Some important supplies that we can't go without were kept. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre took place on March 5, 1770. It was the killing of five colonists by British regulars. Those shots were how the American Revolution began. Even though the event was not a massacre, the Sons of Liberty decided to call it one because it sounded more intense, like we had to do something about it. This was very important, although not very happy, to the American Revolution because the British stepped one foot over the line and overreacted. -
The Boston Tea Party
It was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty who was against the taxes on the tea from the East India Tea Company. They threw tea from ships in the Boston Harbor. This was a very important part of the American Revolution because this famous day was a very elaborate protest and you could tell people were mad at England. -
First Continental Congress
Imagine: it is the above date and you are at Carpenters Hall in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. You are one of the delegates representing one of the colonies. This meeting was called to discuss the Intolerable Acts. This convention is the First Continental Congress. It inclluded 56 people. This is an important part of the American Revolution because it is like the united nations (colonies) of colonial America. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles in the American Revolution. They were fought near Boston. A lot of British regulars were sent on secret orders to capture and destroy military supplies stored by the Massachussetts militia. They started the Seige of Boston and killed a lot of people. This was an important date in American Revolution History because it was the first battle in the whole Revolutionary war that was for our freedom from the British. -
Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was about the same as the first one only it was after the warfare had begun. The second congress managed the colonial war effort and moved towards independence. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Before this battle, the patriots knew that British generals were planning to go there, They fought and fought, and finally the British won although over 800 were wounded and 226 British were killed. This was very unfortunate, and we lost this battle but this was still an important time in history because we knew beforehand about the battle. After all, you can't win every time. -
Declaration of Independence Created
The Declaration of Indepence was created on the above date, The Declaration was made on the above date. It was created to announce that the colonies were independent states, and that they were not part of the British Empire. The Declaration was very important to the revolution because it stated that it was independent, and I think that is what the American Revolution is about. -
Declaration of Independence Ratified
In July 1776 the Declaration of Independence was ratified. To me, this is extremely fast, considering that I have heard some things get ratified centuries after they were made.
