End of the French and Indian War
After the French and Indian War ended Britain was in debt. They were because the British helped out the colonists. It had cost Britain much money and put them in debt. The British needed to tax the colonists to extricated from debt. -
Proclamation of 1763
King George III said that colonists could no longer go onto the west side of the Ohio river valley. The reason why is because he didn't want to keep sending troops over to protect the colonists. The colonists were angry that the king would not protect them any more. The colonists ignored the proclamation and moved west anyway at their own risk. -
Suger Act
The Sugar Act was a tax on obviously sugar. The colonists did not like that because the though "no taxation without representation" which means that the British made a decision for the colonists without them having a representative in Parliament. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act required special stamps for items such as legal documents, dice, newspapers, cards ect. The colonists were angry that parliament passed this act without a representative. There was lots of boycotts and petitions were sent to the king. Smuggling also occurred and violence broke out. -
Quartering Act
This act forced American colonists the house British soldiers and supply them with basic essentials. The colonists thought that this act was a violation of their rights and were out raged. They had reacted violently, by tarring and feathering the British. -
Towshend Acts
The British taxed imported goods like glass, paper and tea. The Colonists were outraged when this law was passed, so Instead of the goods going to Britain and then the 13 colonies, they illegally imported goods right into the 13 colonies (much cheaper than ever). The colonist had also signed Non- Importation Agreements (an agreement between colonists to not import taxed goods). -
Boston Massacre
The British soldiers were in a scuffle everyday with the Boston Colonist. On the night March 5, 1770 the British officers were getting pieces of ice, stones sticks throw at them getting insulted. The crowd grew up to 200 colonists before British backup arrived. A colonist yelled fire and the British officers fired and killed 5 people. They were brought to trial with Thomas Preston (commanding officer for the Brits) They were all found not guilty with John Adams as their attorney. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was a law passed; stating that directly importing tea from India is illegal. It had to go to Britain first. -
Boston Tea Party
This allowed colonist to import British Tea directly from India. It was much cheaper without tax. The sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians, snuk onto the ship and dumped all of the tea into the Boston harbor. The British were outraged, so they passed The Intolerable Acts law . -
Intolerable Acts
These were a series of acts that parliament passed as a punishment for Massachusetts in response to the Boston Tea party. These acts banned town meetings, closed the Boston harbor until tea was paid for. A new quartering act was passed also. The colonists were outraged and felt these punishment were way to hard, the other colonists supported Massachusetts. -
The First Continental Congress
A group of representatives from the 13 colonies met to discuss matters concerning the acts that were passed. It took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Carpenter's Hall. The reason of the meeting was to figure out the best way to respond to the Intolerable Acts. -
Intolerable Acts
This act passed as a punishment. The consequences were banned town meetings, closed the Boston harbor until tea was paid for. The colonists were outraged and they held the First Continental Congress. -
Paul Reveres Ride
Paul revere bagan his ride when he saw the two lamps lit in the old church tower. Two lamps meant that the British were coming by sea. Paul Reveres objective of his ride was to warn the colonists that the British were coming. -
Lexington and Concord
The battle of Lexington and Concord was one of the first battles ever fought between the Colonist and Britain. This battle was the begining of the Revolutionary War. It is uncertian of which side fired the first shot because the writers of the newspapers were biast.
