End of the French and Indian War
The French and Indian War was fought between Britain and France. It started in 1754 and ended in 1763. Britain lost a lot of money to pay for the war so they became in debt. This led to the British taxing the 13 Colonies and the 13 Colonies to protest. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 is when King George III did not want colonists to move west of the Appalachian Mountains because he didn't want to keep having to protect them from Indian attacks. The colonists moved west anyway despite the fear of Indian attacks. -
Sugar Act
A tax passed by the British for sugar and molasses. Colonists didn't agree with this tax because it is unfair for the British Parlaiment to tax colonists without them having a representative. This caused the colonists to boycott any British taxed sugar or molasses.The colonists would then smuggle in sugar and molasses from other countries. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a special tax stamp on legal documents, newspapers,dice,cards,ect. The colinist viewed this as unfair for Parliament to tax colonists since they have no representative in Parlaiment. The colonist then sent petitions to the King. Boycotted any legal documents, dice, ect. Then the colonists promoted violence and continued smuggling goods. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act forced the colonists to house British soldiers in the Colonies. The colonists were outraged and they thought it was a violation of they're rights. They refused to approve of this act and they had much violence towards the soldiers. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were a tax on imports like glass, paper,and tea. this also allowed officers to use the Writs of Assistance. this was a right for soldiers to search colonial ships for smuggled goods. the colonist thought that the Writs of Assistance violated their rights. Merchants signed the Non-Improtation Agreements. The colonist still continued to boycott taxed goods. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was on March 5, 1770 and the number of victims were 5. The cause of the death was gunshot wounds. The things the colonist were doing to provoke the shooting was they said to the soldiers to fire, they were throwing sticks at them, and they were pushing each other. preston did not order them to fire he ordered them to hold there fire but one of the soldiers herd the wrong thing. John Adoms defended captain Preston and the eight soldiers involved. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party took place on 12-16-1773and the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohowk Indians, and snuck on to the British East india Co. ship and dumped all of the tea into the Boston Harbor. the rusults to this were that the Intolerable Acts were passed as a punishment to this. And the first continental Coangress met. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act of 1773 allowed the colonist to import British tea directly from India. the tea was still taxed but it was much cheaper than before. The colonists saw this as a trick to accept being taxed without representaition. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of representatives from twelve of the 13 Colonies. It took place in Philadelphia,PA in September 1774. They met to discuss how to respond to the Intolerable Acts. Their was to demand the repeal of the Intolerable Acts. Then all of the colonies began to train malitias, they also started to boycott new goods. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a punishment of MA for the Boston Tea Party. the Intolerable Acts banned town meetings, they closed the Boston Harbor until the tea was payed for, and there was a new Quartering Act. the colonists were outraged by this, and they felt these punishments were way to harsh. The other colonies supported MA, and held the First Continental Congress. -
Paul Revere's Ride
First in Paul Revere's Ride is the Sons of Liberty learn the British plan to march to Concord, MA and seize the weapons. Britian sends troops to Concord, MA. Billy Dawes began his ride from Boston, MA to Lexington, MA. then Paul Revere sees 2 lanterns lit in the Old North Church indacating that the British are coming by sea. Paul Revere then begins his ride. Revere and Dawes captured near Lexington after warning Sam Adoms and john Hancock to escape. Sam Prescott rides from Lexington. -
Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord is when Sam Prescott rides from Lexington, MA to Concord, MA warning that the British were coming. The Massachusetts minutemen then met the British soldiers at Lexington, MA. Then the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired. The fighting continued on to the next day at the Battle of Concord.
