  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    War between the French and the early American colonists. Both were assisted by Native Americans. 1754 – 1763
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    Proclamation that prohibited the settlers from settling west of Appalachia. It kept the colonists controlled by Britain.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    First tax on American colonists by the British. This act had a tax placed on imported sugar and molasses. Therefore the colonists couldn't make rum, and their trade was disrupted. 1764-1766
  • The Stamp Act of 1766

    The Stamp Act of 1766
    This act required the colonists to pay a tax in the form of stamps on papers, documents, etc. This was to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies.
  • Townshend Acts of 1767

    Townshend Acts of 1767
    Series of measures that were made by the British to tax the colonists for imported goods.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    Event where a patriot mob attacked a British loyalist. He fired a gun. Event grew into a full massacre.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tea act passed by the British Parliament allowed the company to ship the tea to the colonies without landing it in England first.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Protest by the Sons of Liberty. Angry with all of the taxes, the colonists dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Punitive laws established by the British Parliament. Meant to punish the colonists after the Boston Tea Party. March 31–June 22, 1774
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    A meeting between the delegates in Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They discussed boycotting British goods and establishing the rights of Americans. (Between September 5 and October 26, 1774)
